In Loving Memory

Yvette Rushing

April 11, 1965 – November 13, 2021

Yvette Rushing passed away November 13, 2021 at the age of 56.  She was born as an identical twin in San Pedro California on April 11, 1965 to Horacio and Maria Botello. She was a faithful woman who loved the Lord, her family, church, and community. Her Christian faith was an essential part of her life.

Yvette is survived by her children Elisa and Ryan Rushing and her sister Yvonne Botello.  She was an exceptional wife, mother, and sister. Yvette grew up in Pasadena, Texas.  She graduated from South Houston High School where she was on the tennis team.

Yvette married the love of her life, Rodney Rushing, on June 17, 1994. She had her first child Elisa Nicole Rushing on January 24, 1995, and her son Ryan Ray Rushing on September 20, 1999.

Yvette graduated from the University of Houston with honors, Summa Cum Laude. She started her teaching career as a student teacher at South Houston Elementary.  She went on to teach Kindergarten at Jessup Elementary School. Yvette moved to Weber Elementary teaching First Grade where she taught at Weber for 17 years. Yvette made a difference in many students lives, some of whom still remember her to this day. She believed she could change the world one child at a time. Yvette had the gift for teaching. She taught many types of students from the most challenging students to the gifted and talented. Yvette could handle any challenge thrown at her. She was an over achiever with a quiet presence and poise. Throughout her life she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who even now are being changed by her witness of constant nurturing, love, and faith.

Yvette enjoyed ATV riding with her husband Rodney. She enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the outdoors. They explored many different mountain ranges, lakes, and rivers across the US. She found comfort with the little and simple moments in life. She traveled to many different ATV trails with her husband and children by her side. She was fond of all the memories she made.

Yvette always strived to do the right thing. She was a strong woman in her faith and her only hope for her children was for them to continue their faith in the lord and practice the gospel every day. Yvette attended New Hope Church where she was volunteer. She was a faithful servant of the lord and studied the scripture daily.

Throughout her struggle and journey with cancer she maintained a positive attitude. She never let her struggles defeat her. Yvette is finally at peace, she is now in the Kingdom of Heaven where she joins her husband Rodney, as she gets to spend the rest of eternity in happiness with him. As tragic and as sad as her death is, her courage and bravery in facing her death and wanting to leave her mark in her way is incredibly special to the family.

Friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation with the family at 5:00 P.M., with the Celebration of Life to begin at 6:00 P.M., on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, 281-992-7200.

  1. Ms. Rushing was an exceptional teacher. She taught both of my boys in first grade at Weber Elementary. She made the greatest impact as a teacher on my son who is now almost 21 years old. She had the patience and understanding to know how to teacher my son who was diagnosed with a learning disability at the end of Kindergarten. She was there for him every step of the way. He loved going back to the school every chance he could just to check in with her and say hello. I recall the day he walked the hallway at Weber for his senior year and she cried and hugged him and told him that she was very proud of him on his accomplishment. It is a moment that is still engraved in my mind/heart. My younger son would go by her room at every opportunity to say hello to her as well. She was loved by my boys. She will always be remembered as an extraordinary person and teacher.

  2. Yvette was a wonderful friend and we had lots of laughs! Rodney and her were hilariously funny and truly loved each other I stayed in contact with her everyday when Rodney was admitted to the hospital for Covid. She was so heartbroken and told me she didn't want to live without him, and would trade places with him. I convinced her to take chemo since I was a cancer survivor and she agreed and went to MD Anderson she was so brave, however, her cancer was too advanced and it was heartbreaking. She really enjoyed staying home since she always worked full-time and being with her sister and kids. I would ask her how is your sister holding up she would say I could not do all this without her and she will be strong for Elisa and Ryan. She was in severe pain but didn't life painkillers because they would make her very tired. She always read her Bible and grieved terribly for Rodney. I know he came and took her to Heaven they were a true love story. Love and miss you both always.

  3. Yvette was also there for her fellow Weber Educators. If you needed a kind and supportive ear all you had to do is appear in her room. She would drop everything and listen and let you know it was going to be okay.
I watched her take some of my most difficult students and turn them into the best they could be with her team teaching pal Keck. They were the dream team and gave so many students a future.
As a friend she was always giving and kind. Letting you feel the great love she had stored up from God.
Her family was her strength and pride. She loved
talking about them. I know she and Rodney surround them all and will watch over any member that needs a bit of Heaven’s Angel
    Love.
God blessed us all that knew her or them with the best examples of Angels on Earth in human form.
May we learn from the examples and move closer to the life God wants us to lead.
I am so thankful for the gift of knowing her and getting to watch her give young kids a successful
    chance at life.

I am beyond heartbroken at the loss of my friend Yvette. We we best friends in Jr high and high school. She was my maid of honor at my wedding and all though we did not see much of each other during our adult years I had just connected back with her when my grandkids went to Weber. I enjoyed catching up with her and reminiscing about the years we spent together with Yvonne and her parents. I will cherish her memory always.
