In Loving Memory

Stanley John Delikat Jr.

Stanley John Delikat Jr.

October 20, 1936-December 16, 2025

Stanley Delikat, a devoted husband, father, retired United States Army colonel, passed away peacefully at the age of 89. A man of immense character and service, Stan’s life was defined by his commitment to his country and an unwavering devotion to his family.

Stan was born on October 20, 1936, in Central Falls, Rhode Island. His journey of service began after a year at the University of Rhode Island when he accepted an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point.

A member of the Class of 1959, Stan often recalled his time at the Academy as the foundation of his life—not just for the leadership lessons, but because it was during these years that he met his beloved wife, Eileen. They were married on July 11, 1959, beginning a beautiful partnership that spanned nearly 60 years until Eileen’s passing in 2018.

Commissioned into the Field Artillery, Stan’s military career took his family across the globe. His early years were spent in Germany during the height of the Cold War. It was during their stationing in Wurzburg that Stan and Eileen welcomed their two daughters, Wendy and Cheri. After returning to the States, Stan earned a graduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania before returning to West Point to teach in the English Department. During this assignment, the family celebrated the birth of their son, Stanley.

A veteran of the Vietnam War, his later career included command of the 1/78th Field Artillery at Fort Hood, a tour in Korea with the Army Inspector General’s Office, and an assignment at CINCPAC in Hawaii.

Following his retirement from the Army, Stan continued his service in the civilian sector. For eleven years, he served as the Bureau Chief for Emergency Response with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, where he led efforts to protect the public from environmental hazards.

In 2005, Stan and Eileen moved to Texas to be near their children. There they found a beautiful home and developed close friendships.  Stan truly enjoyed spending time with his friends in the neighborhood and playing bridge at the Friendswood Senior Center.

Stan was a proud and loving father to Wendy Grono and her husband Pete, Cheri Weismuller and her husband Steve, and Stanley Delikat III and his wife Stasia. adored grandfather of Jay, Jessica, Nick, Brittnie, Sam, Ashton, Emeli, Stan, Emitt, and Wyatt, and the proud great-grandfather of Max. Stan leaves behind a legacy of integrity, leadership, and a family who will forever cherish his memory.

Friends and family are invited to gather for a Visitation on Monday, December 22, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Jeter Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 23, at 10:00 AM at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the food ministry at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546.

  1. Please know that the entire Delikat family are in my thoughts and prayers. I cherish the long friendship I was able to enjoy with both Eileen and Stan. As I look back over the years, I fondly recall the many treks to West Point, the honor of participating in their wedding ceremony and all the fun family times spanning so many years.

Stan left his mark on many lives. His memory will live in our minds and hearts forever more.
May the God of peace surround you all with love,
Sincerely with love, and cherished memories
    Joan

  2. I met Stan and Eileen when they moved into the West Oak Creek Subdivision. Stan and I got involved in the HOA operation and were board members for a number of years. We went out to dinner with our wives for many Saturdays and would come back from dinner and play pinochle.
On Friday evenings we would get together at Keith’s house with several other friends and chat about anything and everything.
Stan was always a pleasure to be with. He was always a considerate friend.
I will miss him so much.
    Love
    Tony
