Sonia Roxas Villamin of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2026, after her battle with brain cancer.
She was born in Ibaan, Batangas City, Philippines in 1947. She was the eldest sister to her siblings. She attended St. Bridget’s College in Batangas City and attended San Juan de Dios College to study nursing. After turning 21 and becoming an RN, she immigrated to the United States in 1968, beginning her American life in Chicago, IL. She worked as an emergency room nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She married in 1971 and had 2 children before moving to Friendswood, TX in 1989. Sonia worked at Clear Lake Regional Medical Center’s emergency room for the remainder of her nursing career.
She was an active member of the Our Lady of Fatima prayer group in Chicago, IL, as well as the Sto. Nino Group of Southeast Texas. She volunteered for Mary Queen Catholic Church’s bereavement committee. She enjoyed cooking, dancing, and spending time with her 7 grandsons.
Sonia was preceded in death by her parents, Ponciano and Miguela Roxas, and siblings Ramon (Ester) Roxas and Fernando (Julita) Roxas.
She is survived by her husband, Rolando Villamin, her son, Roland (Colleen) Villamin, her daughter Melanie (Ken) Sarmiento, grandchildren Keenan, Jet, Vincent, Timothy, Aaron, Roman, and Dominic, her siblings, Victorino (Aurea) Roxas, Joseph (Proceda) Roxas, Aureo (Teresita) Roxas, Genoveva Baculi, Marilou (Amado) Villegas, Adelelmo Roxas, and her nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, March 16, 2026, at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, TX from 9:30-11:00 am with the rosary at 10:30 am. The mass will follow at 11:00 am, and burial at Mt Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.
