In Loving Memory

Robert L. "Bob" Nelson

December 14, 1952 – May 22, 2022

Robert “Bob” L. Nelson, 69, was born December 14, 1952, in Mattoon, Illinois, to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wayne and Joan (Ludwick) Nelson. Robert passed away May 22, 2022, in Webster Texas.

Robert moved with his parents to Decatur, Illinois when he was a young boy, and attended public schools.  He graduated from Lakeview High School with the Class of 1971 and then attended Millikin University.  Following graduation, Robert was employed with Illinois Power, also in Decatur, where he met his future wife, Janey Weatherford.  Robert and Janey were married in October 1980, and had one son, Blake Robert Nelson. The family moved to the Houston area in 2000, where Robert worked for Dynegy Inc. Those who worked with Robert admired and respected him as a thoughtful leader. Many have said he was the best boss they ever had, and that besides being a boss, he was a friend.  He retired after 45 years of service with the company. He also worked with his dad in his electrical business, was a Cub Master, Boy Scout leader, Jaycee, and member of Ducks Unlimited.  He enjoyed woodworking, boating, and collecting Lionel Trains.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Joan Nelson.   He is survived by his wife, Janey Nelson and son, Blake Robert Nelson of Friendswood, Texas; sisters Carol (John) Milligan of Decatur, Illinois, and Gail (Robert) Hanson of Lansing, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. in The Foundry at The Harbor, 2821 W. Parkwood Avenue, Friendswood, Texas, with Pastor David Miller officiating.  A reception will follow at the church.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to The Harbor in Robert’s name.
