October 26, 1944 – August 30, 2021
Otis “Odie” Nixon passed away on August 30, 2021 at the age of 76, at his home in Friendswood surrounded by family and loved ones. His battle with serious medical issues since 2006 showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite the pain, Otis came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
He is preceded in death by his Father, Marshall Nixon and his Mother, Colene Nixon. He was fortunate to have two sisters Marsha and Mary along with one younger brother Mike.
In junior high he was in the school band, then graduated from South Houston High School. He later enlisted in the United States Navy shortly afterwards.
Otis met the love of his life Sandi, on a New Years Eve blind date set up by his brother Mike. It was love at first sight. After the date he came home and asked Mike, “how would you feel about having Sandi as a sister-in-law?” A few dates later he asked Sandi, “Do you believe in long engagements?” She said, “only as long as they have to be.” He pulled out his schedule and she said, “when’s your next vacation?” And that's how they picked out their wedding day. Together, they had two girls: Tera and Tami.
Tera made him a grandpa with four beautiful girls, Taylor, Brianna, McKenna, and Ivy.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years Sandi, his two daughters Tera and Tami, his four grandchildren Taylor, Brianna, McKenna, and Ivy, his sister Marsha, brother Mike, and younger sister Mary. He was blessed with three nephews Jason, Brandon, and Chris. Along with three nieces Sonya, Nisha, and Kimberly.
He was an inspiration to many on how to live a life in faith, to love unconditionally without judgement, but most importantly to be thankful for every day no matter what battles you face. After he passed, a close family member commented, if there was anyone prepared to be called home it was him. Though he had much to complain about or be mad about, he fought so many battles it could even make someone question their faith but not him. His faith stayed strong till the end.
Pretty sure he's got a fishing pole in his hand right now, or maybe even a bowling ball. One thing that I know for certain is that he's rejoicing and reuniting with the friends and family that were waiting for him. Rest in peace Otis, you fought your last fight.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, with Deacon Vince Eklund officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.

To Sandi & the entire Nixon family,
My deepest sympathy for your loss. I met Otis in 1999 through a faith sharing group. Sandi, from day one, it was clear that Otis treasured his relationship with you, his family and with God. I remember so fondly attending Eucharistic Adoration with you & Otis in our tiny chapel at the 'old' Mary Queen Church and how 'relaxed' Otis was in prayer! But he was a 'man of action' too, like when our Charismatic Prayer Group needed a drummer-he volunteered to take lessons and fill need because we couldn't use a banjo player. Through the illnesses that you both endured, his steadfast witness bore up the rest of us – through much lesser trials. It was the Holy Spirit Who spoke through Otis, via the way Otis loved you amd us, even on Facebook, all in utmost HUMILITY, the trademark of those closest to God.
What a blessing to have known him Thank you for sharing Otis with us.

Our Deepest Condolences in the loss of Sweet Otis, our hearts are broken to hear this news. We deeply apologize that we are not able to be with you during this difficult time, as we are quarantine at home due to Covid. Which has made this so much harder for us, our desire was to be there for you all. We will always remember Otis fondly, for he was always there for us and the rest of the neighbors on Cobblers Way. Eloy enjoyed his fishing buddy and he has alot of fishing memories with Otis that he will always treasure. As we are sadden of his parting, we rejoice knowing that one day we will see him again. We are sending our Love and Prayers to you all and hope to see you guys soon.
