Marion Emerson Haynes, 76, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 6, 2025. He was born on August 1, 1949, in Galveston, Texas, to Jessie Clifton Haynes and Francis “Jackie” Gilbert Haynes. His father worked for the railroad, and during his childhood Marion lived in several Texas towns including Alvin, Streetman, Waxahachie, and Corsicana.

Before joining the United States Navy, Marion married his high school sweetheart, MaryLynn Murphey. Together they shared more than 54 years of devoted marriage. The new couple moved to Hawaii where Marion was stationed and served as a 2nd Class Aviation Technician.

After completing his military service in 1974, Marion and MaryLynn settled in Friendswood, Texas. He went on to work for Shell Pipeline and later Amoco, which was eventually acquired by British Petroleum. His career took him and his family to Louisiana and Oklahoma as well as to Frisco, Dayton, and Atascocita, Texas. In retirement, Marion enjoyed life on his acreage in Bosque County, Texas.

In addition to his professional achievements, Marion was a passionate aviator. He served as a pilot in the Civil Air Patrol for more than 23 years, rising to the rank of Major.

Marion was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Francis “Jackie” Haynes as well as a brother Jessie Clifton Haynes, Jr.

He is survived by his brother Gary Alan Haynes and wife Debbie Haynes. Also, 3 nephews, Charles Murphey, Robert Murphey, and Chris Haynes.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, MaryLynn Haynes, and their 4 children, The Eldest, Katie Haynes Felfe and her husband Steve, Konnie Haynes-Welsh and her husband Robert,
Jessie Murphey Haynes and his wife Wanida Promthewa of Thailand, and Joshua Marion Haynes and his wife Megan Lloyd Haynes.

Marion also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren, who knew him as “Pop-Pop”, Rebecka Marie Felfe, Kaylea Dawn Felfe, Samuel Joseph Welsh, Thomas Landrum Welsh, Minnie Caroline Haynes, Houston Jack Haynes, and Jayda Natasha Haynes.

Marion will be remembered for his love for his family, his service to country, his contagious laugh, and his enduring spirit.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546.  A rosary will be celebrated at 5:00 P.M.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546.  Interment will be held at Houston National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation in his honor at www.parkinson.org.

    He was a faithful parishioners of Holy Angels Catholic Church in Clifton, TX.
    Always enjoyed friends and dearly loved his wife and family
    Marion will be missed by all who knew him.

  2. I have very fond memories of Marion, nickname “Old Man”. He would always tell me stories of his time serving our country. He was a very good man. May he rest in peace. My prayers go out to his family. ❤️🙏
