Linn Chester Eignus, age 102, went to be with the Lord on July, 13 2026 at Harbor Hospice House of Houston. Born in Houston on March 26, 1924, he was the fifth of six children born to Chester Arthur “Chet” Eignus and Nina Cordelia Dickerson Eignus. A lifelong resident of Friendswood, TX, Linn was honored with a proclamation from the mayor on his 100th birthday recognizing the many contributions he made to the community over his life. Official records of the City of Friendswood proclaim that March 23, 2024 was “Linn Eignus Day”! His extraordinary life was complemented perfectly by an extraordinary love. He married Gladys Marie “Hap” Winfrey on May 26,1944 and they were blessed with 79 years together.
Their life began simply with Linn farming rice with his father. As they welcomed the arrival of their two children, Teddy (1947) and Cyndy (1952), Linn’s farming endeavors transitioned from rice to dairy. After a short time working at the Clover Field Airport, he began selling Farm Bureau Insurance in 1958 where he built Friendswood’s first independent insurance agency which he operated for 30 years. Never one to sit still, he offered his time to countless other roles in the community he loved, including serving on the City Council, Friendswood ISD’s Board of Trustees, the Volunteer Fire Department, the Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Rotary Club. When he wasn’t chairing boards and committees, he loved building and lent his expertise to Friendswood’s first fire truck, the first City Hall, and the current high school football stadium. Beginning in 1965, he served as director, organizer, and consultant for numerous banks to navigate the chartering of five new area banks to reach surrounding communities. His final tenure was with Texas Advantage Community Bank where he served on the Board of Directors until 2024. During the 1960’s and 70’s, Linn became “The Voice of the Mustangs” when he announced all home football games for Friendswood High School. His incomparable spirit led to his recognition as one of the first Friendswood High School Distinguished Alumni in 2008. The leadership Linn offered in nurturing the growing Friendswood community was unmatched, but this was not the only area he served.
During his leisure time, Linn kept busy with family and the church community; serving and attending both the Friendswood Friends Church and Friendswood Methodist Church. Always willing to offer counsel, wisdom, and his trademark wit, he was particularly passionate about serving in Lay Witness Missions and Young Life. Over the years, he was a mentor to many and generous with all. Time at home with family found him working in his garden, fishing, mowing a pasture, nurturing a smoker filled with brisket, and even tending a beloved horse that was so lazy he was often presumed dead when napping in the sun. He brought his love for building home with him and could often be found in his shop behind the house. Over the years he built a treehouse, a backyard theater for his grandsons, a beautiful Appalachian dulcimer, and even a mountain for the set of Friendswood High School’s first production of The Sound of Music. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Linn left a legacy of tireless service to all who knew him.
Linn is survived by his daughter Cynthia “Cyndy” McCallon and husband Ron; grandsons Kelly Burnett and wife Julie, Chad McCallon, and Chris McCallon; and great-granddaughters Haley and Emery Burnett. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Gladys Marie “Hap” Winfrey Eignus; parents Chet and Nina Eignus; son Ted “Teddy” Winfrey Eignus; and siblings Vida Louise Pell, Ethel Lorraine Pell, William Trumbo “Bill” Eignus, Maxine Elizabeth “Max” Eignus, and Merton Eugene “Gene” Eignus.
Services will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Friendswood Methodist Church, 110 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 with Reverend Jim Bass officiating. Following the service, remembrance and fellowship will continue in Wesley Hall with a reception for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, his family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Friendswood Methodist Church.

Linn Eignus was a remarkable man! He was a great father, husband and brother to his family. I had the honor of being his sister’s nurse and he took such good care of her. I absolutely adored the whole family. May he rest peacefully and have a joyous reunion with Hap. Sending prayers to the family for peace and comfort.

Linn was such a great person. I worked with him and absolutely knew he was an extra special person.

Linn had a servant’s heart. I lived in the apartments where Polly and Max lived. I remember Linn and Hap quietly bringing them “Sunday dinner” almost every week.
