September 3, 1947-March 13, 2026
Larry John Pearson, aged 78, of Friendswood, Texas passed away peacefully at home on March 13, 2026. He was a loving father, a deeply adored grandfather, and a faithful husband for over 50 years.
Larry was born in Memphis, Tennessee on September 3, 1947, the eldest son of the late Edward and Bonnie Pearson. He was raised in a Christian home where strong values of hard work, integrity, and compassion were instilled in him, qualities that would come to define his life and leave a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Larry graduated from Oakhaven High School and continued on to Memphis State College, where he studied business management. Early in his career, he worked in the family construction business, where he held tightly to his faith in God, the importance of family, a strong sense of humor, and his love for sports. It was during these years that he often shared the story of how he met the love of his life, Sissy. One lucky night at the softball fields, Larry liked to say he “stole her away” from one poor, unfortunate left fielder named Glen-and ultimately won her heart with his charm and dashingly good looks. That one night led to a lifetime together: a fifty-year marriage, raising their family, building a new career, moving to Texas, creating new homes, traveling the world, and making countless cherished memories.
Larry always embodied a deep commitment to hard work and a desire to build meaningful connections, both personally and professionally. Through his Bible study community, he was introduced to the insurance industry-an opportunity that led him to move his young family to Texas, where he built a successful family insurance business. Over the course of his forty-seven-year insurance career, Larry held prestigious managerial roles and earned numerous awards, recognitions, conference trips, and performance honors. Yet, what meant the most to him was fulfilling his dream of mentoring and guiding many agents along the way.
Larry never met a stranger and was always ready with a smile, a warm hug, and his quick wit. If you were fortunate enough to have a seat next to him on an airplane, Larry would quickly strike up a conversation-telling you all about his family, sharing his favorite ribs recipe, offering a few restaurant recommendations, and asking about your life, where you grew up, and your story. By the time you reached your destination, Larry had seamlessly turned a simple encounter into a lasting connection. He took a genuine interest in everyone he met, and that magical impression left people feeling better than they did before.
Larry had a lifelong love affair with food and believed that gathering around the table to break bread was one of the greatest ways to show love. Aside from Memphis BBQ, he enjoyed Krystal burgers, Colletta’s lasagna, a good hotdog, cornbread and milk, fresh Gulf shrimp, and Hostess cupcakes to name a few, but he’d tell you anything with mayonnaise was never worth it. Visiting new restaurants with friends, traveling the world, and playing in golf tournaments brought him immense joy, and gave him endless stories to share with anyone willing to listen.
Larry’s love for golf ran deep in his soul. He found great happiness in perfecting his handicap, collecting new clubs, wearing his favorite golf shirts, playing courses near and far, competing in tournaments, and making the most of his longtime country club membership. You could find him on the golf course every Saturday playing a game of “skins” with his men’s group, enjoying some lunch in the dining room, driving the golf cart around, and chatting on the patio among friends. In his best Southern voice, he would call you his “pah-ner,” because to Larry, everyone truly was his partner.
While golf was his greatest passion, Larry enjoyed many sports and often shared stories from his high school bowling championship days. He also spent time officiating youth basketball and served as President of the Little League, always eager to stay involved and give back. He was an active member of the school booster club, coached his children’s sports teams, and never missed an opportunity to proudly celebrate their accomplishments. At home, he made sure the garage freezer was always stocked with popsicles for anyone who needed one on a hot summer day. He also took great pride in dressing up each year for the Camp Manison haunted house, embracing the scary fun and spirit of the occasion.
Larry never discriminated against who he loved or how he loved, he simply loved people. He had a passion for dancing and a deep appreciation for music-especially attending concerts at the White Haven Night Club, where he enjoyed listening to Ronnie Milsap perform. Years later, Larry had the chance to attend a meet-and-greet with him. With his signature charm, Larry brought up those nights at the White Haven Club. Ronnie Milsap, who is blind, smiled and replied, “Why yes, of course, my friend, I do remember seeing you there!”
Those who knew Larry couldn’t help but laugh at the moment. Larry especially loved the kind of humor he cherished, filled with warmth, connection, and a story he would proudly share.
He was always up for an adventure, the life of the party, the fearless leader, brother you could always count on, the golf partner everyone wanted, the favorite Dad among countless friends, the warm “Huggy bear” embraces, the endless supply of silly jokes, and someone who lit up every room with handshakes and heartfelt hellos, like a true hometown celebrity.
Larry is survived by his beloved wife Ruth (Sissy) Pearson; his children, Angie (Cal Jr.) Hitchman, Aleesa (Darren) Holub, Tyler (Lindsey) Pearson; and his brothers, Casey (Becky), Ricky (Sandra) and Micky (Judy) Pearson and families.
While he held many titles over the years none made him prouder than being called “Papa” by his eight cherished grandchildren: Nathan, Brandon, Anna, Dylan, Payton, Ayden, Carson and Landry.
Larry was an unforgettable gift to an enormous circle of friends and family who will miss him dearly. His legacy of love, laughter, and connection will live on in all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Friends and family are cordially invited to a Memorial service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Clear Creek Community Church in League City, TX.
