In Loving Memory

Kenneth Daniel Aitken

January 23, 1935 – September 22, 2021

Kenneth Daniel Aitken was born to Jens Aitken and Antoinette O’Leary on January 23, 1935.  He passed away September 22, 2021 at his home in Friendswood, Texas. Kenneth married Lucy Anne Harms and they had five children.  Kathleen Aitken, Kevin Aitken, Lucienne Davidson, Teresa Kutchka and Keith Aitken.  Ken has 13 Grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. One more arriving in December of this year.

On October 28, 1989, Kenneth Aitken was remarried to a wonderful woman, Alice Delight Taylor and moved to Friendswood, Texas.  Ken worked for NASA in Clear Lake, Texas for over 40 years.  He was present from Gemini 1 and on the Gemini, Apollo and Skylab teams, and multiple shuttle missions. Of course, walking on the moon for Apollo 11 was a major accomplishment for him and his team. He told me that they had quite the celebration in his office behind the Mission Control screen. He was always fond of his friends and greatly enjoyed his yearly anniversary parties of the Apollo 11 Landing.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jeff and sister Cheryl, daughters Kathleen Golden and Teresa Kutchka.

Family survivors include Kenneth’s wife Alice (Tootie), daughter Lucienne, sons Kevin and Keith, followed by 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 23, 2021 at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200, with Rev. Johnny Peden officiating.

  1. To the family of Kenneth Daniel Aitken, my condolences, and prayers for you. Known Ken for the length of time he spent at the MSC/JSC Mission Control Center. Ken was a great guy and a good friend. May Ken rest in peace in Jesus's name.

  2. I worked with Ken in the 'batcave' during Apollo and Skylab era. Later I depended on Ken's skills in his DSS, FSM, Configuration tasks in the MCC.
    Also a hard worker.

I will miss his smiling face when I go to vote at the Clear Lake Library.

    Al

  3. Ken and I worked near each other for many years but never met until 15 years ago. We enjoyed some good times and enjoyed reviewing the good old NASA stories that we could remember. And finding where our paths almost intersected. I will miss his smile and his response "Sure I can help! What do you need done!" We will all miss his enthusiasm and energy in helping with elections and getting out the vote!
