In Loving Memory

John Thomas Jones

July 1, 1939 – October 25, 2024

John Thomas Jones, 85, of Friendswood, passed away at home peacefully the morning of October 25, 2024. John was born on July 1, 1939, in Bastrop, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his wife Bobbie Jones.

John graduated from Bastrop High School, enlisting in the National Guard and then the Army after graduation. His military service in communications and the US Armed Forces Signal Corp allowed him to travel to many countries and he was proud of the time he was able to serve.

John was honored to be selected for a position at NASA in the late 1960’s. He moved from Louisiana to Texas with his family to become a team member and contributed to many of the early missions into space. He loved developing the simulators and training the astronauts. He attended the University of Houston School of Engineering and worked as a Test Engineer at Singer and later CAE-Link.

John was one of the first residents of the Forest Bend Subdivision in Friendswood. He was proud of his community and worked to help establish the Forest Bend Volunteer Fire Department. He continued his leadership and service to the station as Treasurer and later President of the FBVFD, and was an active member of Clear Lake Medical Emergency Corp (CLMEC).

John worked as a Service Engineer for Versatec, Xerox, and a Lead Quality Auditor and Consultant providing qualification testing for electronic, electrical, and power generation clients. He then went on to work at Clear Lake Intermediate in CCISD within the Technology Department until retirement.

John loved the outdoors, animals, old cars, and just “tinkering”. He was most proud of his family, military service, his contributions to space exploration, and the Forest Bend Volunteer Fire Department.

His favorite times were spent with his grandchildren. He loved water balloon fights, walks in the park, and making peanut brittle.

John will be greatly missed by his daughter, Sherry White and husband David, son Eric Jones and wife Amy, granddaughter Laura Lupoli and husband Franco, grandson Ryan Jones, sisters Melva Harvey and JoAnn Grimes, and brother Jimmy Jones and wife Charlotte.

The family is planning a private graveside ceremony on Thursday October 31, 2024, at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, with Chaplain Jake Kampe officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Forest Bend Volunteer Fire Department.

Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Jeter Funeral Home https://jeterfuneralhome.com.
