JoAnn Truman, 90, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on November 23rd, 2024. She was born on April 25th, 1934 in Nada, TX.
JoAnn worked for many years as a nurse at Alvin Hospital Nursing Center and St. Johns. She met the love of her life Kenneth Truman on a blind date in Galveston, TX and they married April 28th, 1956. They were married 55 years before Ken’s death in 2011. In life JoAnn kept herself busy always finding ways to serve others. She volunteered at the Mary Queen Food Pantry and was an active member of Mary Queen Catholic Church.
She, along with her husband Ken, inspired by their daughter Gale, also helped found Special Friends, a group dedicated to serving special needs children/adults since 1981. She volunteered at the nursing home as well. She was kind and full of unconditional love. She had a calling to volunteer in any capacity she could for her family and the community. She loved camping, traveling, playing card games and turkey tracks with her many friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Truman, sister Lilian Gohlke, brother-in-law Bill Gohlke, brother Raymond Kubesch and son-in-law Kim Bowers. She is survived by son Jeff and wife Beth Truman, daughters, Kimberly Bowers and Gale Truman. Grandkids, Weston, Doug, and Avery Truman. Ryan Bowers and Ashleigh and husband Nolan Doyle, as well as her great granddaughter Nova Doyle. We will all miss her dearly.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at Mary Queen Catholic Church. 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Special Friends, Inc. P.O. Box 1382, Friendswood, TX 77549.

Joann and Ken were wonderful people who gave all they had to Mary Queen Catholic Church. Their good deeds inspired so many of us. Shakespeare said that "…the evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones". But, in this case, the good that Joann and Ken did lives after them, beacon of hope for all who knew them. It was impossible to speak of Ken without also speaking of Joann: they were inseparable in all the good deeds they did. They were a tribute to their Creator.
