November 11, 1944 – October 9, 2025
We are sad to announce the passing of Jeffrey Philip Payson, aged 80, of Friendswood, Texas on October 9, 2025. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 11, 1944 to Philip and Priscilla (Wiggin) Payson. He was happy to have spent his formative years in Prescott, Arizona, where he greatly excelled in both sports and academics.
After earning a degree in civil engineering from the University of Arizona in 1968, a job offer took him to Houston, Texas, where he met and married Kathryn (White) Payson. Soon after, they welcomed a daughter Jennifer (Tamez) and a son, John. After the passing of his wife in 2020, he declared his fifty-year role as her husband to be his favorite and most-rewarding.
Professionally, Jeff found his true calling as a homebuilder in the early 1970’s. As one of the founding members of General Homes, he served as President and CEO until the late 80’s. In 1990, he created Cervelle Homes. This was to be his pride and joy, a company he considered his crowning achievement, and one that kept him engaged and brought him great satisfaction until his death.
Jeff was known for his independent and questioning spirit, and he inspired others to follow their own curiosity and seek their own answers. He valued honesty, integrity, and hard work. Although he was proud of his successes, he remained down-to-earth and his sly humor amused those he loved.
He is survived by his two children, his grandchildren Bastien and Isabella, his sister Janet and brother Tom.
A memorial service will be on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546.

Jeff was definitely a one of a kind! I was truly blessed to work with him over the years and always appreciated his straightforward demeanor and business acumen. I will miss the twinkle in his eyes that shone when he offered the perfect solution to the problem at hand. He lived a remarkable life and truly blessed those around him.
