November 10, 1937 – July 5, 2025
Jean Katherine LaCour Maxwell was born on November 10, 1937 to Nolan and Eunice LaCour in Jennings, Louisiana, and earned her Angel wings on July 5, 2025, at age 87.
Jean first moved to Texas to attend Incarnate Word University in San Antonio and enjoyed relaying memories of Elvis Presley being stationed nearby at a local Air Force base. She later transferred to the University of Southwest Louisiana in Lafayette, and there she met James Maxwell, Sr. whom she married on June 29, 1963, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They soon moved to Canoga Park, California, where their first daughter, Paula, was born. In 1966 the family moved to Friendswood, Texas where Jim was employed at the NASA Johnson Space Center. They soon welcomed their son, James (Jamie), then Marilyn (Missy).
Jean was widowed in December of 1975 and was then a dedicated single mother, raising the three young children on her own. She has been a faithful member of Mary Queen Catholic Church since 1966 upon arrival in Friendswood. She also enjoyed long-term friends she made in the “Friendswood Investment Group” (FIG), a group of women who started investing in the stock market together and continued to meet monthly for educating themselves on investing strategies and would socialize and travel together as well, becoming close supportive friends over decades.
Jean also loved to play bridge and enjoyed the different bridge groups she participated in for many years, still playing until this last year. Another of her many skills was playing the piano and singing. In her children’s formative years, she would wake them up by singing to them in the mornings, and in more recent years, she invested in a beautiful grand piano and took lessons to fine tune her craft, still performing in piano recitals in her late 70’s and early 80’s.
With her love of exploration and travel, she visited Italy, France, England, the Dominican Republic, Canada, Switzerland and Mexico. Italy and France were her favorite countries to visit. She also traveled to several states in the US, including Alaska and Hawaii.
She was known for her generosity, her flair for fashion, and her love of time spent with family and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband James Maxwell, Sr. (1975), son James Maxwell, Jr. (1999), her father Nolan LaCour (1997), mother Eunice LaCour (1987), brother Richard Hill (1996), second husband Chuck Lofland (1996), and her younger brother Phillip LaCour (2023).
Jean is survived by her daughter Paula Maxwell and husband Sam Ralph, daughter Marilyn Maxwell both of Friendswood, her sister-in-law Margie, nephew Lucien, niece Darlene LaCour, great-nephew Jayden LaCour, her nephews Ricky, Kenny and Roger Hill, her niece Susan Peek, and many well-loved cousins. She is also survived by her three beautiful granddaughters, Chelsie and Sam Henkels and children Romily and Cecilia; Erica and Scotty Walters and children Natalie Jean and Scarlett, Victoria and Wilma Homer and children Yarelis, Elijah and Stella.
Her daughters are very grateful for all the faithful prayers, visits and notes for Jean over the past several years from friends and family.

So sorry for your loss. Prayers for Jean and her family. She was a special lady and friend. She will be missed.
We will miss you. Praying for your family.
Jean was a Kind and Loving Lady. I loved her like a Mother. We shared many Joys together. I shared her pain.
We loved watching movies together holding hands. I would take her shopping at Tuesday Morning, Hallmark and Froberg's and her basket would be Full. We said the Rosary together with Marilyn, her Dear and Loving cousin. We said our goodbyes
With a bunch of kisses on our cheeks.
I told her to send me signs from heaven 🙏 😇 💖 🙏
I will miss my sweet sister in law. I enjoyed talking and texting her a lot. I was happy I got to spend time with her at Christmas. My darlene and Lucien loved their aunt very much. She was always a happy person with always a sweet smile
