Janie Miller Kennedy, 80, passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 17, 2026, at her home in Friendswood, Texas. She went to rest surrounded by the deep love of her daughter, Tammi Rapp, and her beloved fur son, Jojo. She was preceded in death by her husband Cecil Kennedy, her brothers Calvin Miller and Harry Hendrickson, and her parents.
Janie was born on July 21, 1946, to Arthur and Doris Hendrickson, and was later adopted by her stepfather, Charles Miller, whom she loved dearly. Her journey through life was defined by her faith in Jesus, a deep appreciation for beauty in both nature and art, and a lifelong love of learning. She attended several higher education institutions throughout her youth, including the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, where she was a proud member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and where she first met the love of her life, Cecil. After many moves and ten years, she finally got her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education.
When not devoting her life to family and faith, her world was rich with personal passion. She adored flowers, found deep peace in nature, and loved animals. She expressed her vibrant inner life through art, spending countless happy hours painting, creating intricate, beautiful beaded necklaces, China painting, or making porcelain dolls.
Janie’s family wishes to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the indispensable caretakers and hospice members whose gentle help, compassion, and presence comforted her through her final weeks.
In accordance with her wishes, Janie has been cremated. Her family will host a celebration of her life at her home on Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, where friends and family are welcome to gather, share memories, and honor her legacy.
Because Janie was beautifully surrounded by a wealth of flowers during her final weeks, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of future floral arrangements, memorial donations be made to a charity of your choice.
