In Loving Memory

Janie Lois (Black) Adams

Janie Lois (Black) Adams

March 20, 1934-May 24, 2026

Janie Adams was born on March 20, 1934, in Loxley, Alabama. One of eight children, she grew up under the loving leadership of her father, D.R. Black and mother, Nobie Morgan Black. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school. Once she graduated, she moved to Houston and worked for the phone company as an operator. She met and subsequently married William L. ‘Bill’ Adams on February 27, 1955. Their first child, Steven Brian Adams, was born in December of 1956, with Darren Clark Adams following in September of 1963. William ‘Bill Adams’ was a flight engineer in the U.S. Airforce and was often gone, leaving Janie to raise Steven and Darren and maintain their household. She proved more than able to meet the demands of, essentially, single motherhood for quite some time, building personal resilience and strength through this period in her life. Her faith in God kept her on a steady path and provided opportunities to have many wonderful friendships – especially at SE Church of Christ where she was a beloved, faithful member for many years. She especially enjoyed the small groups of which she was an active member – the 39’rs & Heartfelt Friends.

Janie enjoyed life to the fullest – from going to church, to dressing to the nines, to being the hostess for many family gatherings. She was very close to her sisters, Myrna, Ronnie, Margaret, Marie & Nell and was so very proud to call Freddie Black and Rudy Black her brothers. She was the proud grandmother of Ethan and Joseph and was thrilled to have that title.

She will be remembered as a lover of life, a fashion queen with impeccable taste, a loving mother and grandmother. She will be in our hearts forever.

Friends and family are cordially invited to the Funeral Service on Saturday, June 6, 2026, with Visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM and the Funeral beginning at 11:00 AM at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 North Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, TX 77546.

Janie was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known, and I will treasure memories from our time together at the Southeast Church of Christ. Whenever I would speak of her to my family, my description would start with “she was always dressed to the nines and always very well ‘put together’. We will all miss her loving smile!
