In Loving Memory

Frederick Raymond Canada, Jr.

January 3, 1957 – May 9, 2022

Frederick “Rick” Raymond Canada, Jr., 65, of Friendswood, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 9, 2022, after a relentless 8-month battle with cancer. Rick was born January 3, 1957, to his parents Marjorie Breeze Canada and Frederick R. Canada, Sr. in Bradenton, Florida. He graduated from Manatee High School in Bradenton in 1975 and shortly afterwards moved to Port Neches, Texas to follow in his father’s footsteps and work as an electrician. Rick’s love for people led him down the path of sales. He began selling cars in his early 20’s. In his 30’s, he had the opportunity to get into the boat business and was very successful. This was a perfect fit for Rick since he loved the water. He finishes his sales career selling new homes for K. Hovnanian Homes for 20 years. Rick had a positive energy about him, and people were drawn to him, so he did very well in the sales industry. You could say his “cup was always half full”.

When not working, Rick had many hobbies, and he was passionate about all of them. Whether he was fishing in his boat, riding his Harley Davidson, attending live music concerts or traveling, he was all in. Rick also found pleasure in the simple things like gardening and cooking. He was an excellent chef and loved cooking and entertaining friends and family. His very favorite past time was spending time with family. He was blessed with four beautiful children and seven amazing grandchildren. Papa Rick loved being a grandpa and adored his grandchildren. He was always eager to teach them new things, and they were eager to learn from Papa Rick.

There are so many attributes to describe Rick, but generous would be at the top of that list. Rick was never quick to share his own needs, but if you needed anything at all, he was the one who always stepped up to help out. He will always be remembered for his willingness to give his time and talents to help others. He was definitely a jack of all trades. If it needed repairing, Rick was your man.

Rick was preceded in death by his father, Frederick R. Canada, Sr., his mother, Marjorie “Margie” Breeze Canada, his younger brother Robert “Rob” Canada, and his older sister Irene “Renie” Canada Dukes.

Rick is survived by his son, Kyle Canada, wife Janelle and grandchildren Connor and Hailey, of Friendswood, daughter, Paige Ehrlich, husband Chris and grandchildren Caylee, Carter and Olivia of Friendswood, son Kevin Canada, wife Natalie and granddaughter Kamryn, of Austin, and son Keith Canada and granddaughter Scarlett, of Friendswood, and former wife and friend, Karla Leger-Canada. Family also includes, sister Barbara Jean Sokol, brother-in-law Ed Dukes, sister-in-law Jodi Canada, “brother from another mother” Mark McBride, wife Patty of Bradenton, Florida, nieces and nephews Michelle, Tasha, Peter, Diane, Christina, Collin, Courtney, and Cameron.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for all the love and support during this difficult time. A special heartfelt thanks to K. Hovnanian and Boat Right Marine for their generosity to our family and to Rick.

Papa Rick left us way too soon, and we will miss him so much. He left this earth surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living life to the fullest. We cherish the time we had with Papa Rick, and we will always keep his memory alive!

Family asks that any contributions please be made to the JP Griffon Memorial Fund at https://www.thejp.org/tournament.php?id=3534 in memory of Rick Canada.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. Jeremiah 29:11

Our family moved from the UK in July 2002 and became fast friends with Rick & the whole family.
Rick welcomed us with open arms as did the whole extended family.
Our transition here was so much easier with the love and support from Rick & Karla
