Freda Ann Whitaker passed away on July 15, 2026, at the age of 94, surrounded by family.
Born on Jan 11, 1932, in Avon Indiana, she was the eldest of two daughters born to Ralph C. and Marguerite M. Hawkins.
Ann grew up in Avon, Indiana. She was always so passionate about her animals and helping her dad and Uncle Fred on the farm.
Ann and Harold married in 1950 and spent 72 years together. They had 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. She was the “woman behind the man” her entire married life, Harold’s biggest supporter in every endeavor. They were partners in opening and operating the first Western Wear store in Friendswood, Boots ‘N Britches, in the 1970’s. She also worked for the Friendswood Municipal Court for several years. She was an active member of the Friendswood community, teaching senior aerobics in the community center, supporting city government campaigns and elections, as well as serving 19 years on the Historical Society Board, 12 years as president.
Most important to her was family. She loved going to football games, horse shows and all the other various sports their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren participated in. She was always ready to dispense advice, wanted or not, along with a healthy dose of humor.
Ann is preceded in death by her husband Harold, parents and sister Linda Sue (Hawkins) May. Surviving family members are Ralph (Vickie) Whitaker, Dawn (Herschel) Glasgow, Sharon Collier, Karen (Darryl Jr.) McDonald, Greg (Diane) Whitaker and 10 grandchildren as well as 13 great grandchildren and brother-in-law Donald Whitaker.
A memorial service will be held July 27, 2026, at 1:30 pm at the Friendswood Friends Church, 502 S. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546, with Rev. Bobby Kirkpatrick officiating. Reception following in the Church Coffee Cafe.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial gift to the Friendswood Historical Society or a favorite charity.

Ann was a second mother to me. She was extraordinarily strong. She loved her family snd the community. Special love to Sharon and the entire. We have lost a jewel.

There were seven other Whitaker siblings and their families that Ann became a big part of. She was a big part of these gatherings. adding humor and her positive outlook to the event. Many great memories of my wonderful relationship with Ann. Ann certainly made a difference during her time here on this earth.
My heart is broken but also filled with memories of Ann that makes me smile. Daryl & I loved her and Harold. We were so very honored and blessed to be a small part of their world.

I lost a very dear friend of over 50years. My fondest memories are of the Friday night dinners Margaret and I shared with Harold and Ann always followed by a lively 2-hour visit at one of our homes. I remember we talked about everything including family, politics, City issues, drainage district issues, NASA, and horses, just to mention a few. My condolences to all her family
We were so very sorry to learn of Ann’s passing. Our sincerest condolences to the entire Whitaker family. Ann certainly lived a long and giving life to the Friendswood community and her family and friends. Our connection to Ann goes way back to sharing carpooling duties when are kids were in kindergarten. We even shared horse manure for our gardens.
Ann and Roy shared their common birthday and sometimes with a Rosemary Olive Oil cake to celebrate. Harold enjoyed the cake very much too. We shared some good down-to-earth conversations at the kitchen table over that cake.
During the hustle and bustle of moving a few years back, Barbara and I didn’t get to visit as often as we wished, but thought of Ann every time we drove by the house.
I had such admiration for Ann and feel it would be difficult to find a better role model for a life well lived. We will miss her warmth, humor and wisdom.
