Eugene Bob Stewart

February 21, 1935 – January 29, 2026

Eugene Bob Stewart (E Bob) of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on January 29, 2026 from complications from advanced Alzheimer’s.  E Bob was born February 21, 1935 in Houston.    He is preceded in death by his wife Janis Irene Stewart.  E Bob is survived by his son Todd and daughter-in-law Kay and grandsons Travis and Adam and great granddaughters Elliana and Juliana.  He is also survived by his son Brad and daughter-in-law Sylvia and granddaughters Alleigh and Eianne and great grandchildren Ethel, Lorelai, and Nikoli.  He is also survived by his son Kyle and daughter-in-law Mary and grandson Jonathan, granddaughter Jessica and great grandsons Heath, Liam, and Owen.  E Bob remarried after Jan’s death and is also survived by his second wife, Carol Johnson and stepson Keith (Kim) Johnson and step-grandchildren Lilly and Sam.

E Bob grew up on the east side of Houston in the community of Green’s Bayou and graduated from the University of Houston.  He served as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserves.  He began his career with NASA in 1964 when he and Jan moved from San Antonio to Friendswood where he has resided since.  E Bob was active in his community having served as a member of the City of Friendswood’s original charter commission, as an early member of the Friendswood United Methodist Church, and volunteer in his boys’ Boy Scout troop.  E Bob enjoyed working at the “farm” that he and Jan bought in 1970, flying (he earned his Private Pilot’s license in 1980), and loved his family. He believed in working hard at whatever task he undertook, was highly organized, and above all was fair and just.  He leaves behind many lives enriched by his guiding example of how to live life with purpose.

  1. New E Bob as friend, neighbor and fellow Christian church member. He was always respected for his dedication to details, fairness and compassion. After his move to the MRC Crossings Senior Living Community both he and Carol have remained our friends and when he met with memory decline moved into our memory care area. He will be remembered for his example of integrity and will be missed.
    My condolences to Carol
    And family.

    1. I was the one and thought I had signed the message.
Brad came by our breakfast table one morning here at the Crossings, independent living, and it was nice to get to talk with him. Carol will be kept company here as she has been introduced to many fellow residence at both Indepe can’t Living and health care here at the Crossings as well as Friendswood.

I remember E. Bob from our years we worked together in the NASA Earth Resources Program Office. We stayed in touch thru our NASA years, then again when we were both active in the NASA Alumni League. It is very true, E. Bob was very kind and patient and a great mentor to me and others. Rest in peace, my friend and colleague…
My condolences to E. Bob’s family.

  3. Knew Bob as a coach in Little League, Cub Scouts, neighbor and most of all the father of one of my closest friends. He was always kind to every person he met. I’ll miss him.

  4. Although I didn’t have the privilege of knowing E. Bob personally, I’ve had the honor of working with his son Brad, and I can say without hesitation that Brad is an exceptional person—kind, humble, and always willing to help others. Those qualities don’t appear by accident. They reflect the character, integrity, and values that E. Bob instilled in his family and shared with those around him.

Even without having met him, it’s clear that E. Bob made a meaningful impact through the way he lived and the people he raised. His legacy lives on in the goodness of his children and in the lives he touched.

My thoughts are with E Bob’s family; may they find strength, comfort, and peace during this incredibly difficult time.

  5. Janis and Mike Peel

We met E. Bob in 1998 when we moved 2 doors away from he and Carol. He was such a fine man and I am forever grateful to have known him. Blessings to the family!

  6. He was the BEST and most influential Scoutmaster I had. His words on leadership, our fellow man, and human interactions serve as a mentor to my mind.

May Christ’s peace rain down upon you Kyle, your brothers, and each of your families.

  7. Mrs. Mary Ellen Ried

Some of us Lori Woods neighbors got a clue about Bob’s advance planning skills when Jan had a clipboard to check off items in the garage as they came off the moving truck. Bob had already assigned places for each item.
Todd & Bobby looked on as we tried to be ready for the arrival of their new siblings. The Stewarts were always way better prepared. People may have teased Bob about being an efficiency expert, but he knew how to ease transitions, get the hard work done and have time for fun at the end. I regret not learning from him while I had the opportunity.
Our families have been lifelong friends as they grew and changed and it has been a privilege and a blessing to have them touch our lives.

  8. I knew E. Bob from the time he first came to NASA-JSC. We have remained friends throughout the years. I knew him to be a very capable employee, honorable and well respected. After moving to Reston Virginia to work on Space station Freedom, I had the opportunity to again work with Bob after he began to work for our prime contractor, Boeing. E. Bob will be missed by many.
