In Loving Memory

Edwin R. Harris Jr.

Edwin R. Harris Jr.

June 2, 1939-June 26, 2026

Edwin (Ed/Eddie) Ray Harris, Jr peacefully passed away on Friday, June 26, 2026. He was born June 2, 1939, in Portales, New Mexico to Edwin R. Harris, Sr and Anna Lois (Sue) Bilbro Harris.

Eddie grew up enjoying the simple freedoms of small-town life during the 1940s and 1950s. A left-hander, he played first base for the Portales High School Baseball team. These early years shaped his love for the outdoors and adventure that he carried through life.

After graduating from Portales High School, Eddie earned an accounting degree from Eastern New Mexico University, married Lucy Trammell (Duston), his wife of 24 years, and passed the CPA exam, launching a career in accounting. During the late 1960s, he owned several accounting firms in Bayard, Deming, and Anthony, New Mexico, allowing him to maintain the independence and adventurous spirit he had enjoyed in his youth.

While living in Deming, Eddie and Lucy welcomed their first son, Jon. Their second son, Jak, was born after the family moved to Anthony. In 1971, Eddie relocated the family to the rapidly growing Clear Lake area of Houston, where they settled and where he opened his own accounting practice. He operated the practice until his retirement in 2010 and formed many lifelong friendships with his clients. In the 2000s, he expanded the practice to include financial planning, a field he was passionate about, and earned his Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation to complement his CPA license.

Eddie’s love of the outdoors and adventure led him to backpacking and hiking. He made multiple backwoods backpacking trips to New Mexico and Montana with family and friends. He was an avid runner during the 1980s and 1990s and completed 26 marathons including New York Marathon, Marine Corps Marathon, and multiple Houston marathons. After retiring, Eddie traveled throughout the United States in his Casita camper with his faithful dog, Harley. He enjoyed camping, geocaching, and visiting friends and family, and he made many lasting friendships while attending Casita rallies across the country.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Sue Harris, and his sister, Mary Kay Goodman. He is survived by his sons, Jon Harris (Sharon) and Jak Harris (Kelly); his grandchildren, Nikolas Harris and Aspen Slivinsky (Zach); his great-grandchildren, Olivia Slivinsky and Harrison Slivinsky; his sister, Phyllis Spears (Larry); as well as a niece and several nephews.

Friends and family are cordially invited to a Memorial Service on Thursday, June 9, 2026, with Visitation from 10:00-11:00 AM and the service begins at 11:00 AM at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 North Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, TX 77546.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to The Greyhound Pets of America – Houston – Greyt Wellness Fund https://www.gpahouston.org/donate/.

Eddie was the beloved nephew of my daddy, Lowell Harris, their strong bond was indicative of family members truly loving one another. Eddie shared this bond with me; he was like brother. I admired his strong, loving character. I shall always remember the times we shared fishing and sharing vacation time in Galveston.; and uppermost his kindness and caring counsel he gave me.
