Diana Embrey, 71, of Friendswood, TX, passed away on November 11, 2022 after a yearlong battle with peritoneal cancer.
Diana was born on September 24, 1951, to Fay Denise Hanscom and Charles Hiar of Towner, ND. After Diana graduated from Towner High School in 1969, she proceeded to get a dual degree in teaching and home economics at Minot State University.
In 1973, Diana went on a blind date with John Embrey. After a short 6-week courtship they were married on August 3, 1973. Diana and John had two children, Crystal and Amy Embrey.
Diana spent the first 9 years of their marriage as a homemaker and caretaker for the children, while traveling to different bases for John’s Air Force career. She loved to entertain and welcome new people with open arms. She lived by the “more the merrier” approach to life.
In 1982, Diana started her 30-year extensive career in the civil service. She started in personnel as a secretary to give her the option to travel from assignment to assignment for John’s Air Force career. She started as a GS4 and retired as a GS 12. Diana worked nights and weekends to receive a Master of Science in Human Development from Virginia Tech in 1999. Upon John’s retirement from the Air Force, she started working full time at the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She was a trainer and assisted in writing a manual for case management software used at the Bureau. She trained this application to support staff and agents alike. She trained at several Field Offices plus an office in the Middle East. She also trained the new agents at Quantico on this application. She was well loved and respected by both agents, support, and coworkers. She retired in 2012 to move on to the new chapter of being a full-time grandma, friend, and wife.
Diana always surrounded herself with her friends and family, which is where she felt most comfortable and loved. When friends got married, they received a personalized cross stitch made by her; when a friend had a baby, she sent them a hanky that was stitched up to double as a christening bonnet or a baby quilt; when you had a potluck, she would bring a big dish. In later years, she learned to quilt with her daughter, and made and gave multiple quilts to friends and family. She made multiple quilts for auctions that raised money for cancer organizations. She belonged to multiple organizations over the years including Beta Sigma Phi, Piecemakers Quilt Group at FUMC, Bay Area Quilt Guild and VFW Auxiliary.
Diana was predeceased by her mother Fay Denise, her stepfather Everett Hanscom, her in-laws Mary and Bruce Embrey and her daughter Amy Embrey. Diana is survived by her husband John Embrey, her daughter and son-in-law Crystal and Benjamin Marsh, her granddaughters Elizabeth Schroeder, Mia Marsh and Mariana Marsh, her sister Karen Fields and her nephew Nick and niece Katie Fields.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Friday, November 18, 2022, from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. with the service to begin at 2:00 P.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home 311 North Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Pastor David Goran officiating. A private burial will be held at Houston National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Women Rock www.womenrockinc.org a cancer organization Diana felt strongly about.
