In Loving Memory

Devon Michael Harris

September 17, 2001 – August 30, 2022

Devon Michael Harris, or better known as “D” or “Big D”, passed away on August 30, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family and friends after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

Devon was born on September 17, 2001, in Houston, Texas to John and Stephanie Harris.  Devon was the proud and “occasionally” annoying, older brother, to Tristan Harris.  After graduating from Clear Falls High School in 2020 amid the COVID pandemic, Devon went on to become a full-time student at the University of Houston where he planned to pursue a degree in Entrepreneurship.

Clear Falls High School is also where Devon met the love of his life, Angelica Marie Lozano.  Devon proved to be the ultimate romantic and devoted boyfriend after falling head over heels for this beautiful young woman.  As his mother, I can recall telling him he was setting the bar way too high early on in this relationship as he celebrated each month they had been together with thoughtful gifts and gestures. In true young adult fashion, this motherly advice was ignored. These two young lovebirds have been a great strength for one another, and we are blessed to have Angelica in our life.

Devon has always enjoyed athletic activities.  As a child Devon tried many sports, from karate, soccer, flag football, t-ball, and track. Ultimately basketball is where he found his passion.  Devon enjoyed playing on select basketball teams as well as the high school team his freshman and sophomore years. Beyond the court, Devon was always strong academically.  Devon attended the Wave program within CCISD for his middle school years and was inducted into the National Junior Honors Society. He went on to the National Honor Society in high school as well.

Not only was Devon athletic, but he was also gifted artistically and had a creative flair.   At a young age he started drawing and was recognized various times through his school years for his art talents.  These art talents drove him to explore ways to earn an income as he dabbled in rug making and then sewing and embroidery for a brief time.  His favorite paintings were those created for his family and friends.

Devon had a gentle and laid-back spirit, always wearing a smile.  At times, as his parents, we worried maybe he was a little too laid back as nothing we could say or do ever seem to terribly upset him.  It is the same calm and cool nature that carried him through his days of radiation and chemo upon his cancer diagnosis.  Devon also enjoyed a good laugh as well as a prank.   If you were blessed to spend much time with him you would have either laughed or quickly became irritated with his joking nature, just listen to his voicemail message.

There will be a visitation on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Jeter Funeral Home, 311 N Friendswood Dr, Friendswood, TX 77546.  A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022, at 10:30 am at St. Mary of the Expectation Catholic Church at 1612 E Walker St, League City, TX 77573 with Rev. John Rooney officiating.  Following the service, there will be a graveside burial at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery and a Celebration of Life at St. Mary’s in the Parish Hall.  If you do not wish to attend the graveside burial, you are welcome to gather in the Parish Hall immediately following the Church service at St. Mary’s.

  4. This is a well said obituary! Devon always did his best in whatever he did! I was always amazed of his talent as an artist! He was a super smart kid and yes he did have pranks too. I also remember when he saved his money and built his own computer. It will never be the same without him around but we will have plenty of stories to continue to tell! I feel blessed that I was able to watch him grow up and that he was a big part of our family!

Stephanie, John, and all of your extended family.
Most people will suggest that I always have something to say. Today, however, I am absolutely speechless. There is nothing I can utter other than to offer my daily prayers for all of you. I've known of Devon and Tristan for years through my municipal work relationship with Stepahnie and occational dinners where John has joined us. Now, I know a little more about their precious son from this lovely obituary. I will carry Devon's story in my heart forever. I will lift all of his family in special prayer this week. Courage. Strength. Peace. Love for one another. Rest in Peace, Sweet Devon.

topic. You know so much its almost hard to argue with
you (not that I personally would want to…HaHa).
You certainly put a fresh spin on a topic which has been written about for many
    years. Great stuff, just great!
