In Loving Memory

David Valdez

January 9, 1973 – August 5, 2021

It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of David Valdez on August 5, 2021.  David was born in Dallas, Texas, but lived in Friendswood, Texas for forty-seven of his forty-eight years.  You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with family.  You may also light a candle in honor of David Valdez.

David is loved and cherished by many including his parents, Enrique and Ofelia Valdez, his brother Enrique Valdez, Jr., his sister-in-law Dianne Valdez, all of Friendswood, Texas.

David joined Mary Queen Catholic Church’s parish in 1974 and was actively involved in parish activities for over thirty years.  His parish activities included teaching Continuing Catholic Education and Sacraments classes.  He led the Children’s liturgy program in the parish and supported the altar server program ministry.  David was truly devoted to the Catholic faith and was an example to many.

David worked at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) for over twenty-five years and supported the universities’ technology center.  Prior to his tenure at UHCL, David worked at the NASA-Johnson Space Center.

David graduated from the University of Clear-Lake with a Bachelor of Arts degree and was an alumnus of Clear Brook High School’s Inaugural Graduating Class of 1992.

David’s most prized calling was the serving of others, never looking for recognition or accolades. He was humble, but well known. David cherished spending time with his family, always integral to their support, but also ready to have joy-filled fun.  David enjoyed Star Wars and music, he played guitar, golf, soccer and hockey.

One of David’s favorite Scripture passages was Isaiah 40:31 –

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

They will soar on wings like eagles;

they will run and not grow weary,

they will walk and not be faint.”

A reading of the rosary will begin at 9:30 A.M., with the funeral mass to follow at 10:00 A.M., on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546. Interment will be at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson, TX.

Condolences may be sent to the Valdez family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.

I didn't have the pleasure of knowing David well, but met him a few times and liked him very much. His goodness was obvious just by chatting with him. I'm so saddened by his too soon passing.
      Sincerely,
      Susan de la Fuente

My heartfelt condolences and prayers to all the members of the Valdez family upon the passing our dear parishioner, friend and Gospel-steward, David Valdez. His heart and soul consisted of loving service and joy in serving Our Lord and the communities of Mary Queen Catholic Church, NASA, and Friendswood. May the Risen Lord greet him at the gates of heaven with these words, "Well done good and faithful servant. Inherit the Kingdom of God prepared for you from the foundation of the world." May the peace of Christ be with all his loving family and friends.

  9. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Valdez and family.
Please accept my most sincere condolences at the passing of Dave. He was instrumental as a high school sophomore in introducing me, his debate teacher, to using a computer. We often hear about how teachers change lives, but in this case the student changed the teacher's life. I remain truly indebted to this wonderful young man, and am saddened that such a loving soul was taken too soon from this world. Sincerely, Debra Zupancic

Dear Mr. and Mrs. Valdez, Rick and Diane,
We are SO sorry for your loss. David was such a servant of our Lord at Mary Queen, and impacted so many lives thru his example of faith and service. Please know that you are all in our prayers.

  11. My deepest sympathies to the Valdez family for the tragic loss of David. He was truly a faithful servant and an asset to Mary Queen parish and all who crossed his path. I had the opportunity to serve in Childrens Ministry with him and he was a tremendous help to me.
He shared his heart and passion for “planting the seed of faith in children”, something I will always remember. David, Rick and Diane were a threesome at Mass, always assisting in some way with a ready smile. I know he will be sorely missed. Life can be shortened suddenly and David knew how to make his time count. He was an example to us all . His family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
    May He Rest In Peace.

Our deepest condolences to Mr. & Mrs. Valdez and to Rick and Diane. We remember him since he attended CCE at the time our son did and will always remember the three together; David, Rick & Diane, always smiling as they helped in so many church events. Beautiful family! I always used to run into David at Bldg. 45 where I worked & at the cafeteria at NASA. Rest in Peace David, I am sure you are smiling at the angels right now!

  13. Our deepest condolences to the entire Valdez family. My husband and I met Dave in 2002, in NY, at a summer concert with a mutual friend. We all clicked immediately. He flew out and spent a weekend with us in 2003 – when the big blackout hit the East Coast. While we never got an in person chance again (we always said "next year". I'm so sad over that) We stayed in contact constantly – first via myspace, then Facebook, and our traditional NYE phone call. When it hit midnight in NJ, NJ would call TX since TX had more time. The past few years were always video calls, and he'd get passed around. This year, my 15 year old finally chimed in and wanted the phone. We told him, for someone almost 1700 miles away, he was one of our greatest friends. He knew us better than most. He will be missed. You are all in my prayers.

    1. I'm sorry to hear about Dave's passing my condolences to the Valdez family and y'all are in my thought and prayers May God Bless y'all
