March 8, 1954-January 13, 2026
Daniel Maurice Slape, passed away peacefully on January 13, 2026 in Pearland, Texas. Daniel was born in El Paso, Texas on March 8, 1954 to his parents Pat and Joy (Vandervort) Slape.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Brenda Walton and dear grandparents.
He is survived by his sister, Belinda Hixon of Fort Worth and brother Bobby of Trophy Club in addition to several nephews and nieces. He is also survived by several cousins and more friends that most of us could imagine having.
He grew up in El Paso, Texas and attended Ysleta High School. After high school he went on to join the Navy and worked in construction for many years afterward. He went on several adventures in his youth, catching rides on trains and hitchhiking without destinations in mind but always going home to El Paso.
He moved to San Antonio in the late 1990s and lived there until moving to Pearland for hospice care. A man of strong faith, Danny was a member of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio where he served as an usher.
After being severely injured by a drunk driver in 2000 Danny turned his life around -dedicating his life to making a difference in the lives of others. He volunteered with MADD for several years, speaking on the dangers of drinking and driving and serving as an example of how drunk driving impacts innocent victims.
In 2019, Danny was awarded the Monitoring / Oversight Division Volunteer Award during the Governor’s Criminal Justice Volunteer Service Award Program for his work with Bridges to Life.
Danny was a passionate volunteer for Bridges to Life Prison Ministry where he led many 14-week programs, and he told us that the program impacted him as well as the prisoners he ministered to.
Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Saturday, January 31, 2026 from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. with the funeral service to begin at 12:00P.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, Texas 77546. Burial will follow at Confederate Cemetery in Alvin, Texas.
The 14-week Bridges To Life program is led by a team of volunteers who meet weekly with inmate participants inside the prison unit. In the small group format, volunteer facilitators lead participants through weekly topics in BTL’s curriculum book Restoring Peace, such as accountability, confession, and forgiveness. Facilitators encourage sharing and discussion during each session, forming a bond that grows from week to week. Participants also complete weekly homework assignments in the companion study guide. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Bridges To Life. Donate here https://www.bridgestolife.org/donate, or mail a check to Bridges To Life, P.O. Box 570895, Houston, Texas 77257-0895.
We want to thank our cousins – Jeff and Jeanne Vandervort and Gay McDaniel – for their loving care of Danny during his last weeks. Their kindness will be remembered always.

No greater reward is there than which you have received, welcomed home into the living arms of Jesus.

If the good doesn’t tarry I will see you soon!
