Brenda Gail Buffingtonwas born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She was a retired educator and a licensed insurance agent. Brenda accepted Christ as a young child and was baptized at the True Vine Baptist Church by the late Reverend Eugene Staden. She spent most of her earthly life searching for and studying the true meaning of God’s word, which she ultimately found in Yeshua. Her greatest joy was studying, sharing, and teaching God’s Word. Therefore, we often heard her ask, “What does God’s word say?” She would follow this question with a calm invitation of, “Let’s go to the Word.” Therefore, we are assured Brenda was prepared for God’s Kingdom.
In 1971, Brenda graduated from McKinley High School, where she met and later married her soulmate, Elijah “Lil Joe” Buffington. They remained married for 54 years. To their union three sons: Jason, David, and Alex and one daughter, Angie were born. She loved her husband and children with an agape love and encouraged them to study and practice God’s word, so they too would be in God’s Kingdom.
How abundantly blessed we are that God granted us 73 years of witnessing her patience, peacefulness, and giving spirit. She was a gift from heaven and a true example of how we all should thirst after God’s Word.
Her life and memories will continue to be cherished by her loving and devoted husband, Elijah “Lil Joe” Buffington of Willis/Friendswood, TX; her loving children, Jason Joseph Buffington (Julie) of Alvin, TX; Alex Andrew Buffington of Willis, TX; Angie Clarice Buffington of Friendswood, TX; the Buffington grandchildren: Thai, Brendan, Jason II, Adam, Lacey, Grace, Michael, and Elijah of Friendswood, TX; sisters: Kathy Faye Johnson, Janice Wells, and Sharon Wells Florida (Robert) of Baton Rouge, LA; one uncle, Robert Wells, and host of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Louisa McGowen Wells and David Wells, Sr.; mother, Clara Mae Wells; her son, David Arnold Buffington, whom she affectionately called “My David”; her sisters, Judy Ann Wells Harris and Sandra Wells Landry; and her uncles, David Wells, Jr. and Earnest Wells.
Friends and family are cordially invited to the Funeral Service on Thursday, September 17, 2026, with Visitation from 9:00-10:00 AM and the service beginning at 10:00 AM at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 North Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598.
A Repast will be held following the burial at Brisa Mexican Grill,
501 North Wesley Drive, League City, TX 77573.

Sending my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Brenda. Brenda and I grew up together from the earlier years of her life through high school at McKinley Sr. in Baton Rouge. I remember her beautiful smile and Angelica singing. Brenda’s voice was truly a gift from God. May she rest in eternal peace. May the memories of Brenda remain in the hearts of everyone who loved her.
I remember singing in the school choir with Brenda for six years. We graduated in 1971. I remember Brenda having a beautiful face, voice, and a beautiful spirit. She was also very smart. Family know that she is in a better place. Keep her precious memories in your heart.
Firstly, I’m sorry for your loss. Brenda was a sweet soul and I loved her like a sister. As Brenda shared God’s Word with you, so will I. Psalm 34:18. The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Brenda and I sang in the choir as well as in a trio with Hattie Belinda Perry. We were on point! Once, we were backstage, singing the refrain, “Where you there when they crucified my Lord”. People said they thought it was a recording. Ms. Turner taught near-perfection in us in high school. In middle school, we sang as a duet in talent shows. “Reunited”was our go-to song. Although we only communicated sporadically, when we did, it was always with fun, respect and love. Brenda is now in the arms of the Lord. May she rest in peace.
Sending our deepest condolences to the Buffington family and friends. Mrs. Brenda Buffington ran her race well! She shared the love of Christ in her with everyone that came her paths. She was kind and always has a positive attitude to life and issues! Her leadership and supportive role in Mainland Christian School, Texas City will never be forgotten! May she continue to rest in the bosom of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. May the Lord wrap His hands around her husband, children, family, and friends.

I send condolences with a reminder of the many lives touched by Brenda along her life’s journey. The McKinley High Class of 1971 remembers her as one of our “songbirds” for so many occasions during our high school years.
We speak blessings, peace, and fond memories for her children, grandchildren and friends.

Hello ‘Lil’ Joe. It’s been many, many years since high school, I’ve talked to you. I’m soo sorry to hear about Brenda. I know you will truly miss her. Ya’ll have been together for a long time, before we graduated from McKinley in 1970. Occasionally I would think about you as a fellow graduate as well as living in the neighborhood, you on Kentucky Street and my family on Maryland Street. Thinking of Brenda, your wife brings melochancoly to me because of memories of Arnold Roy, with his beautiful eyes. Although we experience sadness in this world, very soon it will all be over. I look forward to the fulfillment of Revelation 21:4. The Bible gives us a beautiful promise that God will wipe away all tears and that death, mourning, outcry, and pain will be no more. This will occur when God’s kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for will take effect on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9 & 10. You are in my prayers ! Take care!
I send thought of kindness and compassion to the family and our class and all of the people whose lives Brenda touched with the love of God. Surely Psalm 116:15 Speaks her life. How beautiful in the sight of the Lord, is the death of His saints. Praise to God for a life lived well in the service of The Lord. May the God of all comfort, comfort you all. All of us.
