Brenda Gail Akens Delcomyn passed away on May 6, 2024 in Friendswood, Texas. She was born in Abilene, Texas on November 8, 1950, to Thomas Irving and Eddy Jo Akens. She spent her early years in Abilene, Friona, and Midland before moving to South Houston in 1961. Brenda graduated from South Houston High School in 1969 where she made many lifelong friends.
While a member of Main Street Church of Christ she met Rex Michael Cowan and they were married on July 19, 1969, and had two sons Glen Edward and Gary Wayne before Rex’s untimely death in January of 1976. Brenda married Ronald Wayne Delcomyn in August of 1976 and welcomed Ronnie’s son Kevin to the family as one of her own. Ronnie and Brenda welcomed yet another son, Andrew Michael, in March of 1978.
Brenda excelled at anything she wished to accomplish. She was a loving wife and mother, an excellent cook, a professional cake decorator and in her fashion of putting others before herself, she was a registered nurse which became her passion until her retirement in 2005. Brenda was a true warrior in that she put God above all else as she raised her family, cared for others in need and survived breast cancer and the loss of her left leg due to a failed knee replacement.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ronnie in December of 2017 and is survived by her four sons Glen and wife Tammy, Gary, Kevin and wife Belinda and Andy. Grandchildren Kortnie, Rex and Grace, Jack and Emma, Kelley, Jordan, Kevin Jr, Candance, and Grayson. Brothers Mike and wife Jan, Pat, Tim, and wife Loy along with numerous nieces and nephews. As a lifelong member of the Church of Christ we find solace in the fact that she is now in the presence of the Lord.
Friends are cordially invited to join the family for a visitation on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 North Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, Texas 77546 (281) 992-7200
Interment will be at Midway Cemetery in Hodges, Texas at a later date.
