Betty Phene Benes Hill

June 30, 1946 – October 28, 2025

Betty Phene Benes Hill, 79, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2025, surrounded by family in Pearland, Texas. Betty was born on June 30, 1946, in Houston, Texas and grew up on a dairy farm in Pearland, Texas.

Betty was a proud graduate of Pearland High School, Class of 1964. Her bond with her high school girlfriends remained strong throughout the years, a testament to the deep connections she nurtured and the joy she found in lifelong friendship.

Betty attended Sam Houston State University for two years. It was during these college years that she met her future husband, Jack Hill. Together, they built a life rooted in love and family, spending the next fifteen years in Pearland where they raised their children. Betty embraced motherhood with warmth and dedication, creating a home filled with laughter, support, and the kind of love that leaves a lasting imprint.

After divorcing Jack, Betty eventually settled in Richmond, Texas with her three children. Betty found purpose and fulfillment, stepping into a role that perfectly matched her generous spirit and unwavering commitment to others. As the Director of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program in Fort Bend County, she poured her heart into serving families in need, offering not just resources but genuine care and encouragement.

Later in life, Betty returned to Pearland to care for her mother and eventually settled into a home that became her sanctuary. She found joy taking care of her backyard garden, where vibrant flowers bloomed and birds gathered daily, bringing her peace and delight. A devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Pearland, Betty cherished the fellowship she found there, nurturing a spiritual community that enriched her life.

Betty was known for her radiant smile and boundless compassion. Her home was a haven not only for her children but also for their friends and other family members, many of whom found comfort and guidance in her nurturing presence. She had a gift for mentoring those in need, offering wisdom, kindness, and a listening ear. A free spirit at heart, Betty found her greatest joy exploring the backroads of Texas with her beloved sister, Judy Poston—affectionately known as “Sissy.” Together, they camped along winding rivers, shared laughter under the stars, and sang along to Willie Nelson, creating memories that echoed the rhythm of a well-lived life.

Betty is survived by her loving daughter, Deena Hill, and her devoted son, David Hill, along with his wife, Donna Hill; her daughter- in- law, Teri Barnhill, and husband Bill. She will be dearly missed by her sister, Judy Poston, and brother-in-law, Bill Poston; her brother, Donnie Benes, and his wife, Frances; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Benes. Betty’s legacy lives on through her cherished grandchildren: Dylan Hill and his wife, Sam; Cameron Hamilton and her husband, Riley; Stella Mae, Sawyer, and Scout. She also leaves behind her great-grandson, Cooper Hill, and her beloved great nephew, Tristan Benes, who shared a special time living with her during her final year.

Betty’s warmth and generosity extended beyond immediate family. She will be fondly remembered by Barbara Hill, her former husband’s wife, and their children, Davis “Beau,” Clinton, and Christy, and her dear friends, Lynda Bible and Anneka de Jong, who each held a special place in her heart. Her presence will be missed by a wide circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends—all part of the vibrant and loving Benes “black hole,” where family ties run deep and laughter never ends.

Betty was preceeded in death by her father, Joseph Benes, her mother Jewel Haskins Benes, her brother Jodie Benes, former husband Jack Hill, sister-in-law, Susan Jamail Benes, and her beloved son Daniel Byron Hill.

A memorial service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held on November 4, 2025, at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church in Pearland, Texas.
