In Loving Memory

Arlene (Weyer) Taylor

Arlene Taylor

March 9, 1935-May 24, 2026

Arlene Weyer Taylor was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, March 9, 1935, to Henry and Lois Weyer. She met her husband, Truman Taylor, while attending Baylor University. They were married in 1955.

After years in South Houston, Truman and Arlene, along with their children, Teri and Larry, moved to Friendswood in 1967. They discovered Friendswood through their membership in a flying club that flew out of, then, Clover Field Airport. Truman and Arlene were both pilots.

Arlene and Truman became active members of First Baptist Church in Friendswood in 1969. Arlene taught a Sunday School class for over 50 years, moving from youth to adults. Her last women’s class was very popular, attended by all ages. At the same time, Arlene sent birthday cards to virtually the entire membership of the church and participated in a letter writing ministry to prison inmates.

Arlene was active in Truman Taylor Insurance, a family-owned business begun in 1962. Both Teri and Larry worked alongside their parents, with Larry taking over when Truman retired.

Arlene and Truman were world travelers, but perhaps their most enjoyable journeys were with their motorcycle “gang,” the Buzzard Bunch. Yes, Arlene was a biker chick!

The group, composed of church members, rode all over the country looking for adventures and especially restaurants, with their stated objective: Search and Devour!

Arlene was well known for her cooking and hospitality. The couple opened their home to numerous families and individuals as needs arose.

After Truman’s passing in 2005, Arlene downsized and moved to League City. However, her involvement with her Friendswood church and friends never flagged.

In fact, even after moving into assisted living, she remained consistently engaged spiritually and socially, attending church as well as a weekly ladies’ luncheon and Friendswood Prayer Breakfast.

Arlene is survived by her brother, Fred Weyer and his wife, Dolores; daughter, Teri Wells and her husband, Raymond; son, Larry Taylor and wife, Pam; grandchildren, Trudy Smith and husband, Andy; Carly Abel and husband, Carter; Jake Taylor and wife, Katie; and Wisteria Warren and husband, Joel; great grandchildren, Lila, Micah and Asher Abel, Chase and Graham Taylor and Noah and Hazel Warren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Arlene’s post-operative struggle ended, Sunday, May 24, as she moved to her heavenly home, reunited with husband, sister, parents and friends.

Friends and Family are cordially invited to the Funeral Service on Saturday, May 30, 2026, with visitation from 9:00-10:00 AM and the Funeral beginning at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church- Friendswood, 209 S Friendswood Dr. Friendswood, TX 77546. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St. Houston, TX 77023.

  1. At one time, Truman, Arlene, Teri, Larry and I all worked together at the insurance agency. Arlene, among other things, was the bookkeeper. One day, she worked diligently all morning and well into the afternoon, trying to reconcile the bank statement. When she finally emerged from the back room, victorious, someone asked what she so diligently tracked down. It turned out, the bank balance and the books had a 4 cent difference that had to be resolved.
I’ve joked about this so many times, but realized that it illustrates a caring on Arlene’s part that many of us wish we had.
Jesus speaks of leaving the 99 to find the 1, and an impromptu spring cleaning to find 1 lost coin. That was Arlene. Except, everyone was the one. If you received a birthday card you were the one, if you received a letter in prison, you were the one. If you were in her Sunday school class, you were all the one. If you were lost, Arlene would do her best to find you with the Good News.
Every one here will miss the one that was Arlene.

My life was forever enriched by my Aunt Arlene and Uncle Truman when they invited me live with them one summer. I had the privilege of working at Truman Taylor Insurance with Truman, Arlene, Teri, Raymond, Jackie and Pat. Among the many perks were daily home-cooked lunches, by Arlene, for the whole office! Not only did she provide an opportunity for me to make and save money over the summer, she made sure my life was enriched socially and spiritually – even setting up dates for this teenager from Georgia! Arlene was my mom-away-from mom taking every opportunity to spoil me rotten!

  3. Larry & Teri and family,
My condolences on the passing of your sweet mother. I wish for you peace and comfort during this time.

    Much love,
    Stu & the Crouch Family

  4. My sincere condolences to you. Your mother was very proud of both of you. She loved you dearly.

My condolences, prayers to the entire Taylor family.
Ms Taylor was a bright spot in my day when she would come into the post office. She was always one of my favorite people to see there smiling, waving Hi to me.
She was always so kind to me.

  6. Mrs. Taylor, I will always think of you on your birthday because you always gave me a card on mine.

    See you again someday.

    Love, Greg Harkness

Arlene was such a blessing to me! I met her over 15 years ago as she was bringing her birthday blessings to Inspira, and through the years her sweet demeanor always an encouragement. Her love for Jesus and others was very evident in her life! I know she is rejoicing in Heaven, but she will be greatly missed. Praying for continued comfort and peace for the Taylor family.

  8. Arlene was a great friend to everyone she met. She and Truman shared many hours of fun, adventure and laughter with my parents. I am thankful of the time they spent together at Discovery Village this past year – the final chapter in a God centered life. Arlene will be missed but her smile and love live on in all who met her.

  9. Arlene was an inspiration to us all. I will cherish her being our Sunday School teacher. She truly loved and encouraged us to study the Bible and then apply it in our daily living. I will also cherish her quick wit and humor. She will be missed❤️

    1. I am a life that was changed by Arlene she showed me what it truely meant to live out a Christian life. God put me in Arlenes Sunday school class just when I needed her guidance the most. I know there is a huge party going on in heaven right now. Our sweet Arlene is finally home.

Aunt Arlene was a special lady, who was loved by many! All 3 of my kids vividly remember Aunt Arlene. They hadn’t met her, yet, bu around the ages of 5-8 years old, they all asked about her when they received her birthday cards. I told them we should write to her and they all wrote notes, sent pictures of themselves and asked her to send them her picture. Arlene indulged them and wrote them back and sent her picture. They communicated back and forth for a while and were delighted every time they recieved her correspondences in the mailbox. Even though they didn’t get to spend time with her, that made them feel they knew her well and loved her for it! Sending notes and cards was her ministry and she did it so well! She made so many feel special in that sweet way of hers!! She is very loved and will be missed!

  12. First met Arlene @ First Baptist Friendswood when Bill,Sonja &I moved to TX. I was in choir with her and we soon joined the “ Buzzard Bunch.” So many wonder memories of those trips together! She was a beautiful, sweet lady but she could surprise you sometimes with her wit snd humor. Her last days she would tell me “I don’t know why God won’t take me .” I told her “ all in his time because you have always been one of his best servants.”

  14. Much has been said about this sweet lady’s hospitality. I served on the pastor search committee with her along with about five others. We would meet on a Sunday evening at the church. Somehow the meeting place got changed to Arlene’s house where she would cook a complete meal for us. I specifically remember her telling us she was going to make us Truman’s favorite sandwich. A bean sandwich. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew it would be good. It was.

I remember her sharing with me how she and Truman kept a basked of Christmas cards on their kitchen table. She told me each morning at breakfast, they would pick one card out of the basket and pray for the sender of that card. She said they would do this all year long until the following Christmas when they would get a new patch.

I will always remember her gratitude. She would do so much for others and yet show such gratitude for the littlest things done for her.

She was such a blessing to our family. I will remember her, Ms Egge and Ms Newman, as great pillars of FBCF.
