October 5, 1944 – July 1, 2023
Aida King Puente, 78, gained her wings on July 1, 2023. She was born to Irene and Alfonso King on October 5, 1944, in San Antonio, Texas.
Aida was raised in a blended family by her mother, Irene, and stepfather, Natividad Peña. There were many children, and they were all very close. They lived in many cities in Texas following available work finally settling in Andrews, Texas. There she met her future husband, Marcos Puente. Their initial meeting was not an indication of a future pairing. Marcos worked with her stepfather and was invited over to dinner where Aida was asked to make tortillas for them. She angrily and reluctantly made them not knowing that Marcos would be her future husband. Later they met again and began dating. After a short engagement, they were married on December 30, 1961.
Marcos and Aida lived in many cities in Texas also following work. They had their first child, Marcos Enrique, on November 21, 1962, when they lived in Ennis, Texas. Their second son, Abel, was born in Andrews, Texas on January 19, 1965. They raised their two boys alongside her sister, Stella’s three boys. The boys had many adventures together and became very close. In 1973, Marcos and Aida decided to move to Colorado, close to Marcos’ family, so he could pursue his education. Then on October 4, 1973, they welcomed their daughter, Aida Denise, in Greeley, Colorado. They eventually moved back to Texas, settling down in Friendswood, Texas, close to her sister, Stella, and her family of six boys. The two families are very close. On October 14, 1990, Marcos and Aida were blessed with their beautiful granddaughter, Rachael Nichole. Aida spent a lot of time with her granddaughter and loved every minute of it.
Aida spent her life in service to the Lord. Her testimony is unique because her calling was a true calling. When she was 13, she began sneaking to the Baptist church to listen to the sermon. She loved listening to the Word but did not go into the church because her family was a different denomination, so she would just listen to the sermon through an open window. One day, there was a bench outside that little window. A little later, the church had left a Bible on the windowsill for her. That book changed her life. She loved reading the Bible and she knew that she was meant to be part of the Baptist Church. She pleaded with her parents, and they eventually gave in to her request. When she was finally able to go into the church, it became her true calling. She loved teaching Bible stories and began volunteering in Sunday School classes. Throughout her life, she would find a Baptist Church in the city where she lived. She always chose to teach Sunday School classes and she taught all ages, from teenagers to toddlers. Her last years of teaching were at Heritage Park Baptist Church in both the Preschool department and the Mother’s Day Out program. After many years of service to the Church, she retired; never fully realizing all the lives she touched. A true blessing to many.
Aida is preceded in death by two children, her mother and stepfather, Irene and Natividad Peña, her father, Alfonso King, her brother Robert DelaFuente, and her grandniece, Kristen DelaFuente. She is survived by her children, Marcos Enrique, Abel, and Aida Denise, and her granddaughter, Rachael Nichole Hamilton (husband, Justin), sister, Gloria Lira, sister, Stella Dalton (husband, Gary), brother, Israel Peña, sister, Hortencia Martinez, brother, Lupe Peña, sister, Dora Nave, sister, Diane Flores (husband, Ismael), brother, Jesse King, brother, Alec King, brother, Steve King (wife, Kathy), and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Aida was a truly happy person, who looked at the world with childlike wonder. It was a trait that made her such a wonderful teacher and storyteller. She had a big heart and helped many in their times of trouble or need. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy and will be missed tremendously.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023. Visitation starts at 10:00 am with the service at 11:00 am at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546. (281) 992-7200
