In Loving Memory

Vernon R. Van Shoubrouek

July 24, 1935 – December 1, 2021

Vernon Ray Van Shoubrouek, 86, of Church Point, Louisiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.  He was born on July 24, 1935 in Baytown, Texas to Oscar and Georgia (Foster) Van Shoubrouek.

Vernon graduated from Leggett High School and went on to attend Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas.  He proudly joined the Marines in 1954 and served on the USS New Jersey Battleship.  He drove log trucks, was a drilling consultant and worked all over the United States and Africa. He stood for what he believed in and loved his country.

Vernon loved a good laugh.  He had a smile that would light up a room and was very compassionate and caring.  He unselfishly took care of his parents until their passing and was always willing to help anyone in need.

Having ranched his whole life, Vernon was passionate about his dogs and horses and would listen to Gaither hymns while working in the barn.  He loved the Cowboy Church and was one of the Great American Cowboys.  He will be missed by all that knew him.

Vernon is survived by his two daughters, Joyce Ann Johnson and Sherrall Van Leeuwen; three sons, Barry Keith Van Shoubrouek, Joe Van Shoubrouek and Stuart Van Shoubrouek; two sisters, Barbara Ann Hawes and Joyce Jeter; brother, Peston Van Shoubrouek; four grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and his dogs, Lizzy, Boomer, Gypsy, Lucky, Shadow and Rascal.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, December 9, 2021 at Jones Prairie Cemetery, 1147 FM 942, Livingston, Texas 77351, with Rev. Larry Allbritton officiating.

Condolences may be sent to the Van Shoubrouek family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.

Mr. Van was one tough cowboy and proud Marine.. loved his country and never had a problem with expressing his opinion.. he will be missed by everyone that was blessed to have met him.. I know I will.. love you ❤

  2. Van and my brother, Sam Cain, were best friends from college days, having met in the SFA Rodeo Club. Their stories are many and always entertaining. Their love for each other was enduring. Sam will miss his good friend but knows they will rodeo together again one day. From Mary Cain, deceased, Dena, Sam, and Vi, we pray for the family as they say goodbye to a one of a kind soul. Rest in Peace, Van. We all loved knowing you!
