In Loving Memory

Van Buren Myers, III

July 10, 1952 – September 28, 2021

On Tuesday, September 28, 2021, Van Buren Myers III, loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather passed away at the age of 69.  Van was born in Pasadena, Texas, on July 10, 1952 to Van Myers Jr. and Glennis Coats Myers.  Van was an outstanding athlete.  At the age of 14, he represented the Dallas Cowboys in the Texas Punt, Pass, and Kick Competition at the Cotton Bowl in 1965.  He later attended and played at Southern Methodist University under a full football scholarship. In 1971, he met the love of his life, Brenda, while she was attending a high school trip to Dallas.  They were married January 5, 1973 and had celebrated 48 years of wedded bliss at the time of his death.  He would have laughed at that term, wedded bliss, but Brenda is writing this and he no longer has a say.   He worked for the Houston Post as an Area Circulation Manager until its closing in April 1995 and then became an Independent Distributor with the Houston Chronicle until his retirement in 2012.  He received numerous awards and tributes for excellence in service from the Post and the Chronicle.  Van and Brenda traveled all over the US, Mexico, and Carribbean, courtesy of these accomplishments.

Van was an avid sports fan.  His beloved SMU ponies could always depend on his armchair support and /or coaching advice when needed.  He never missed an Astro’s game on television and during the last months of illness and confinement, those games became the highlight of his days.  He loved planning family driving trips through the Hill Country, especially around the Christmas season.  He was known to drive for hours, seeking out of the way places and small-town eateries.  He was known for his love of family, great sense of humor, and generosity.  A gentle giant of a man.

Van was preceded in death by his father, Van Jr., and his mother Glennis.  He is survived by his wife, Brenda, his daughter Adrien Moore and husband Dave, grandchildren, Parker Myers and Ava Moore, his sister, Cynthia Myers, family-in-law members, and nieces and nephews,

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Revive Church (formerly First United Methodist Church Pasadena) 1068 Fairmont Parkway, Pasadena Texas.  Viewing will be at 10:00 AM with funeral to follow at 11:00 AM.  Per his wishes, his remains will be cremated so no graveside service is planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Revive Church at the same address.  Flowers, if sent, should be directed to Jeter Funeral Home, Friendswood Texas.

Condolences may be sent to the Myers family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.
