In Loving Memory

Terry Wayne Collins

November 16, 1959 – November 3, 2024

Terry Wayne Collins of Dripping Springs, Texas, entered his Lord's presence on November 3, 2024, at the age of 64. Terry was born in San Antonio Texas, on November 16, 1959, to Malcolm Allison Collins and Betty Beatrice Kohler Collins. From an early age, Terry had a deep interest in hunting rocks, minerals and fossils. He worked with his father at an early age, surveying for his own company. Terry attended Friendswood High School and became a Mustang for the basketball team. After graduation, Terry attended Sam Houston State and studied Geology. Graduating with a Bachelors in Geology, he later went on to own his own gem and mineral trading company. Many years later, he continued to love rock and fossil hunting with his sons in his down time.

While at Sam Houston State, Terry met the love of his life, Naomi, and they would later get married on January 30, 1988. Terry and Naomi were the perfect pair, balanced by each other's love for similar hobbies. His biggest accomplishment was the family he created with her and the friends he kept from the many years prior.

Terry loved television, always watching movies over and over again, quoting lines every day. Eventually he would actually be in a movie called Idiocracy. While being an extra, he was in the center of the screen, always proud of what he considered a significant role. His favorite music was ACDC, Beastie Boys, Rolling Stones, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin and many more. Football was always a big part of his life, always cheering for the Cowboy and UT games.

Terry is survived by his two sons, Clinton Collins and his wife, Breanna Plimpton and Hunter Collins and his fiancé, Madeline Semple. He is also survived by his three brothers, Mac Collins, Steve Collins and Tim Collins.

On November 3, 2024, we lost an amazing soul that will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Family and friends are invited to the visitation with the family on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at 10:00 AM, the service to follow at 11:00 AM at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home 311 N. Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, TX 77546. (281) 992-7200, with Rev. Jim Bass officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

  1. Great friend and work colleague at the state health department. Texas has lost a servant to the people. He will be missed. Praying for his family during this difficult time.

  2. Terry was a wonderful uncle, mentor and friend. I remember when I went to college in Austin that Terry would take me to lunch and visit often. He was incredibly positive and funny – always with a funny movie quote at just the right time in his booming voice. My deepest condolences to his children as Terry’s personality was larger than life and will be missed greatly.

  3. Terry was an awesome co-worker with a quick wit and fun sense of humor. He was a wealth of knowledge and talent … and will be missed. I pray for peace and comfort to all his family during this difficult time.

  4. Terry – a good man. Joyful, mild mannered and soft spoken. He always seemed happy and wanted to have fun.
He was a great brother in law, a good husband to my sister and an exceptional father to Clinton and Hunter. He loved them beyond all else.
I will truly miss you Terry. You did good. Rest in peace.

  5. I worked with Terry at the Department of State Health Services. Terry was a wealth of knowledge and experience. He was kind and funny, and one of the most interesting people I've ever met. He will be so missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones.

  6. To Terry's family & friends,

Please accept my condolences for the loss of Terry in his passing. I was, like many others, his classmate at FHS, and later, at SHSU. We ('78 grads) were a small class (225-ish) by today's standards, so we all knew one another fairly well. Our classmates continue to enjoy a cohesiveness that's rare for alumni of nearly 50 years. Terry was a special part of our group; good natured, well humored, witty and, in many ways, larger than life. He will be missed and long remembered by his FHS family of friends.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss & wish for all of you peace, comfort and clarity as you grieve.

    Stu Crouch

  7. Terry was a wonderful supervisor at TXDSHS. He was always supportive, helpful and made me laugh. I enjoyed my time working with him and learning so many new things. He was a great person.

  8. Condolences to the family. I now you will miss him sorely. I tell you the following so you can know more about Terry. This is not about me.

Terry and I met at Sam Houston State University. We were both enrolled in the geology program and after our Freshman year, became roommates and shared an apartment for 2-3 years. We pulled an all nighter one time and watched Monty Python & The Holy Grail about 7 times, back to back, to learn all the lines. We would recite them for many years to come. We were both members of the Sam Houston Association of Geology Students, and that is how Terry met Naomi. The three of us had so much fun together, along with other Geology majors. The obituary nailed Terry's love of AC/DC, but it was the Bon Scott (former lead singer) era he loved the best. "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" is one of his fav's. He Loved the Ramones as well. We would drive around Huntsville in his black Firebird with T-Tops off blaring AC/DC and the Ramones. Seems like yesterday. Once we graduated, we kept in touch and Terry was instrumental in helping me obtain my first professional job at Envirotest, Inc. We worked there together for a few years before he departed to work for the Texas Department of Health, now known as the Texas Department of State Health Services. We kept in touch via phone the best we could. He moved to Austin and I stayed in Houston. I have so many stories I could tell, but I'll keep them for another day. He was a great guy and played a huge part in my life and I hope I played a part in his.

God Bless you Terry. Do a reverse dunk for us all! Clinton and Hunter, if you read this and would like to meet and hear more, I can be reached at Bcopus@qclabs.com We have never met but you would both come up in our discussions.
