In Loving Memory

Ruby Augusta Reviere

April 9, 1933 – July 6, 2024

Ruby Augusta (Hooge) Reviere, Sister, Mother, and Grammy, went to reside with her beloved Jesus Christ in Heaven on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at the age of 91.

Ruby was born at home in Clinton, LA, the oldest of four daughters. She was raised on a farm outside of town, where she and her sisters could often be found in the fields helping their parents. She graduated from Clinton High School and became the first-ever family member to graduate from college, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics from LSU. She married her college sweetheart and lived in six states as an Air Force wife. She became the mother of two boys, and two girls, and she said God had answered her prayers. She used her degree to work at home, raising children; she sewed clothing and household decor, cleaned, and cooked a wide variety of meals. Her home was open to family, friends, and guests.

After arriving in Friendswood, she worked in food service first at Texas A & M Food Service Extension, serving the underprivileged, and as Food Service Director for Texas City ISD. Driven for success, she taught classes on food safety at College of the Mainland in Texas City.

Ruby stayed busy embroidering, knitting, and crocheting many beautiful items, and quilting after retirement. She loved gardening and being outside tending her potted plants and gardens. After many plant sales, she was called “Plant Lady” by locals.

She was devoted to Christ and donated her time as an organist, LWML, Sunday School teacher, and director.  She participated in and led numerous Bible Studies. She sang in the church choir until the age of 88. She made countless quilt tops for Lutheran World Relief. She was a member of House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

Ruby adored travel and visited over 40 countries on six continents; many trips to visit her sons and later with the Friendship Force of Houston. She never met a stranger; given a minute she’d extract your life story. Her curiosity and interest in others helped her make friends worldwide; and in early travels, she met honorary children, Bilgi and Mustafa Gulen in Turkey.

She made close friends during her 54 years in Friendswood and often lamented that many preceded her in death, missing them.

Ruby is survived by children Renee Hernandez (George), Randall Reviere (Mallory), Rodney Reviere (Julie), and Robyn Reviere (Randy Hahn), sisters Theresa Brooks and Alean Hunnewell, 16 grandchildren, and their spouses, 19 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Ruby is predeceased by her parents Emile and Minnie Hooge of Clinton; sister, Edna Wegener; brothers-in-law Louis Brooks, Charles Hunnewell III, Albert Wegener; nieces Kathryn Bates, and Johnny Rhea Bennett, and nephew Charles Hunnewell IV.

A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on July 25, 2024, with visitation at 9:00 am at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546, (281) 992-7200.

A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on July 26, 2024, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 11007 Plank Rd., Clinton LA. 70722. A graveside service immediately following the funeral at 12417 PAR 5-115/ Gross Rd Clinton, LA.

In Lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Lutheran World Relief, PO Box 17061, Baltimore, MD, 21297-1061 https://give.lwr.org/
