In Loving Memory

Richard Matthew Wolfe

February 4, 1937 – April 3, 2024

Richard Matthew Wolfe aged 87, joined his heavenly Father on April 3, 2024, after a long illness.  He was born February 4, 1937, in Highlands, Texas to Charles Rex Wolfe and Cora Vivian Simpson Wolfe.

Richard graduated from Robert E Lee High School in Baytown in 1955, where he played on the varsity basketball team and sang in the choir. From 1955 to 1957, he attended Lee College where he again played basketball with the Lee Rebels, serving as a team co-captain in 1957.

His career led him to Sterling Chemical in Texas City, where he worked his way up to become a Systems Analyst. Richard was a life-long member of the Church of Christ. After retiring, he dedicated much of his time to his church, particularly in the music ministry, serving at different times as a song-leader and praise team member. After moving to League City, Richard became a dedicated member of the Clear Lake Church of Christ. From 2001 to 2020 Richard faithfully attended a men’s prayer group at 6:30 a.m. every Tuesday. Music was always a big part of Richard’s life. He was a long-time member of The Houston Tidelanders Chorus and also sang in a barbershop quartet.

With the encouragement of their matchmaking mutual friends, Mary Rose and Hugh, Richard and Marilyn married in 1997. They shared years of companionship and adventures on their various travels across the United States and abroad.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Vivian Wolfe and his brother Paul. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his brother Roy, his sons Rick, Rex and his wife Heather and Randy and his wife Kelle, as well as a loving extended family.

Some of his happiest times were spent at his lakeside property, where he shared the joys of fishing with his sons and his grandchildren. Among his other fatherly pursuits was his quest to become the Master of the Dad Joke, competing with his son Rex for that title.

Richard was a true child of God, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, but the people who call him family cannot be limited to a traditional family tree.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the Clear Lake Church of Christ, 938 El Dorado Blvd, Houston, TX 77062.
