October 22, 1936 – August 5, 2022
Rebecca Stuart Red was born in Alvin, Texas on October 22, 1936. She was the daughter of Richard Wallace Red and Rebecca Jephson Red. She passed away on August 5, 2022 in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Alvin High School. She attended the University of Texas and graduated in 1959 where she studied education. At UT, she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. As a lifelong Texas Ex member, she was an avid supporter of academics and athletics. She loved watching and attending both men’s and women’s athletic events. Becky was a diehard Longhorn fan and bled orange through and through. She is often remembered by her burnt orange outfits, especially her crocs.
Becky taught history at Alvin High School for many years. Everyone loved Ms. Red. In the classroom you could frequently find her in costume acting out the day’s history lesson. She loved kids and believed in the importance of education for all.
Becky was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party and civil rights. She was an advocate of women’s rights especially. She volunteered her time with the local Democratic Party and was very passionate about politics.
Becky lived life to the fullest. She was always happy and ready for an adventure. She was super independent and worked hard every day of her life. So smart and ready and willing to help anyone in need. She would drop whatever she was doing to lend a helping hand.
Becky’s greatest love was her family. Her love of sports carried on through the years watching her nieces and nephews play youth sports. She would travel from afar just to see them play. She was always the loudest fan cheering on the kids.
She is survived by her brother Richard Wallace Red, Jr. and his wife, Sara Evans Red; three nephews and their families, Richard Wallace Red, III, his wife Vanessa Red and children Kelsey White, her husband, Avery White, Ben Kilpatrick, his wife Katie Kilpatrick and their children, Jack and Will Kilpatrick, Taylor Hamm, her husband Chris Hamm and their children Aurora Hamm, John Clark Red, his wife Gayle Red and children, Miles Larkin, his wife Susan Larkin and their children, Amelia and Robert Larkin, Anna Pringle, her husband Evan Pringle, Olivia Red and Beverly Red, and David Red; one niece Rachel Red Matthews, her husband Chuck Matthews and their children, Anabelle Matthews, Charlie Matthews and Lucy Matthews; and many other relatives and cherished friends.

I was saddened to hear of Becky's death, but I know that physically and mentally she is in a better place. I have missed those play-by-play phone conversations replaying the game after any Longhorn game. We shared a love for The University of Texas. I worked with Becky at Alvin High School meeting her a couple of years after I came to Alvin to teach and coach in the Fall of 1957.
A truly inspiring teacher and wonderful person. You were lucky indeed to have her as a teacher. Well done Thy good and faithful servant. May the angels escort you peacefully into God's kingdom.
Aunt Becky was a joyful spitfire. I always looked forward to spending time with her on her frequent visits to see Rachel, Chuck and their children. I know she is in heaven seated on the front row of every horns game. She is dearly missed.
