July 23, 1927 – July 4, 2023
Marvin Bernard Maples, 95, formerly of Arvada, Colorado died peacefully in his cabin in Friendswood, Texas just the way he always wanted. On July 4, 2023, just 19 days from his 96th birthday, the Lord came and walked him home.
Marvin was born July 23, 1927 in Dermott, Texas. The last of 5 children born to Marvin King Maples and Maude Mae White he was also the last to join the family in heaven. He had been patiently awaiting the day he would rejoin his bride of 57 years, Angelina “Dee” (Masciotro) who had gone to her heavenly home in 2006. They had met and married while he was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver. They settled in Arvada where they saw their 4 children grow, marry, and start their own families.
Marvin and Dee enjoyed bowling, fishing, reading and spending weekends in their trailer in Granby, Colorado. They enjoyed traveling and spending time with their children and grandchildren. Marvin continued to bowl and golf until his late 80s. They were so very proud of all their children and grandchildren.
In 2018, Marvin returned to Texas where he was able to enjoy his independence, living in the cabin on his youngest daughter and son-in-law’s property. He loved the sunshine and heat. He enjoyed being around his family and getting to watch his great grandchildren. He continued to read, work jigsaw puzzles, and follow the Colorado Rockies, Denver Broncos, Gonzaga basketball, and listening to his grandson Taylor’s live sports broadcasts from Oklahoma.
Marvin was funny, told good jokes (his words), and always said he had lived a full life. He was ready to meet his Lord and rejoin his wife, parents, brothers and sisters, and family that had gone on before him.
Marvin is survived by his children: Carol (Kenneth) Kerstner; Jo Ann (Robert) Emery; Marvin J. (Tammy) Maples; and Paula (David) Gray. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Services will be held in Arvada, Colorado at the Shrine of St. Anne Catholic Church, 7555 Grant Place. Rosary on Thursday, August 17th, 7:00pm with Mass at 10:00am on Friday, August 18th. The funeral service will be at Mt. Olivet.

I just learned of Marvin’s passing.
I lived across the street from him and Dee. They were the most wonderful people you’ll ever meet. They told me I could consider them my parents after my parents passed only one year apart.
After leaving my home I tried to visit him only to find their home obviously had been sold and was being renovated. I thought the worst.
I am so happy to learn by the grace of God he moved on from there to spend the rest of his life back home where he loved.
May you Rest in Peace my dear friend.
Marvin or Uncle Buncey as we called him was my uncle. I have many, many, cherished memories of him and his wonderful family who are my first cousins. Many summers were highlighted by visits to Arvada and his and Aunt Dee's lovely home. I am saddened to learn of his passing but I know he is in Heaven with his bride, my mother Frances, and the remainder of his family that went home before him. What a glorious life he lived and was a shining example for every family member. We will see you soon Uncle Buncey!
