In Loving Memory

Marshall Franklin Hill, Jr.

December 29, 1953 – January 30, 2022

On Sunday, January 30th, Marshall Franklin Hill Jr. passed away peacefully in his home. Marshall was born December 29, 1953 to Marshall Franklin Hill Sr. and Birdie Ann Cooper in El Paso, TX. A longtime resident of El Paso, Marshall met his wife Charlotte Jean Hamlett in 1974. Marshall and Charlotte were married in 1977, and had two children, Heather Ann Hill, and Aaron Marshall Hill. As a husband and father, Marshall loved his family above all else, always supporting each of them in everything that they did and worked hard to give them a life without unnecessary hardship.

After graduating from Irvin High School in 1972, Marshall went to work for the El Paso Electric Company. A man of many hats (both literally and figuratively) Marshall worked as a welder, mechanic, and eventually worked his way to upper management during his 27-year tenure at El Paso Electric.  He also played on the company golf team and served as union president for a time. In 2001, Marshall and his family moved to Friendswood, TX where he worked for Calpine, continuing his career in energy management.

Marshall was a true renaissance man, who would immerse himself in all his interests. He never did anything halfway, his hobbies included: golf, racquet sports, cycling, kayaking, boxing, fishing, cooking, shooting, and bird watching. In El Paso, he became interested in astronomy and began collecting telescopes, eventually building an observatory in the family back yard to watch and photograph the stars. It was during this time that he won 1st place in a photography competition hosted by the El Paso Herald-Post. His photo of the moon was later published in the paper. Having a lifelong love for music, he played & collected instruments including guitar, mandolin, and fiddle. Marshall loved mountain biking with his son and regularly volunteered to build and maintain bike trails in Franklin Mountain State Park. Marshall also volunteered as a referee for his daughter’s soccer league.

Marshall is survived by his wife Charlotte, his daughter Heather, his son Aaron, his mother Birdie Fioretti, his brother David Hill, his brother Thomas Fioretti, and his sister Linda Carter.

A memorial service for Marshall will be held at the Jeter Funeral Home – 311 North Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546 – on Saturday, February 12th at 11:00am

I was so very saddened to hear this news. The world was a better place with him in it, and a lesser place with him gone. He was kind, strong, faithful and a friend to everyone. It was many, many years ago when I last saw him, but his photograph brought back many memories. My prayers are with his wife and family.
