In Loving Memory

Marlene Dee Broome

July 10, 1931 – December 28, 2022

Marlene Dee Lange Broome, 91, passed away December 28, 2022 peacefully surrounded by her family after complications from surgery.

She was born on July 10, 1931, to Ben and Mary Lange at the family farm in Hurdsfield, North Dakota. Marlene moved to Drain, Oregon and lived with her aunt and uncle, graduating from Drain High School in 1949.

Marlene moved to Houston Texas in 1951. She worked at Trans Texas Airways at Hobby Airport where she met her husband, Ernest A. Rowe. They married in 1953 and had a beautiful daughter Christina Lynn in 1954. In 1957 she became a widow, raising Christina as a single mom.

In 1962 she married Ross Broome at the chapel on Ellington Air Force Base and moved to Friendswood, Texas in 1964 with Christina and their new baby, Traci Marlene.

She was most known in Friendswood as the owner of Marlene’s Casuals, a ladies dress shop she opened in 1970 – 1993. A special treat was going to Dallas Apparel Mart where she would take her daughters and friends to buy clothing for her store. She was always beautifully dressed and never left home without her hair done and her favorite bright pink lipstick on.

She loved to travel and made wonderful memories of summer road trips to visit her family in North Dakota. In 2019 her family was able to take her on a dream Alaskan cruise.

Marlene was member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority for 60 years and part of the Theta Master Chapter until her passing. She was also a charter member of American Business Women’s Association of the Clear Lake chapter, where she would host wonderful fashion shows with members as well as models and buyers.  This annual event benefited the Chapter’s scholarship fund program. She still enjoyed lunches with the Magnificent 7 at Tommy’s, and was also a member of Friendswood Methodist Church since 1967.

Preceded in death her parents, brother, Myrle Lange; sisters, Betty Peterman, Karen Biar, Peris Boegler, and Norma Hirschkorn; Christina’s father, Ernest A. Rowe, and her husband, Ross Broome who passed away in 2016.

She leaves behind her daughter, Christina Rowe Freese; grandson, Shelby; granddaughter Bonnie Mills (Jonnie); great granddaughter, Mckenzie Timmons; and great great granddaughter, Miss Carson Weber.

She also leaves behind her daughter, Traci and son-in-law Jim with whom she lived with since 2020; grandson, Wyatt Evans, and granddaughter, Whitney Evans; grand pups, Penny, Charlie, and Princess Kitty.

Her niece, Faye Boegler Derbes; nephews, Ronnie (Myra) Boegler and Craig Boegler (Judy) and
their children; her 92-year-old cousin, Rhea in Eugene, Oregon; together with many other cousins, and nieces.

She was so loved by her friends and family. A remarkable strong, sweet lady who will be greatly missed, but we celebrate the long life she had with us.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Friday, January 6, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Friendswood Methodist Church, 110 North Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Rev. Jim Bass officiating.

Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.
