In Loving Memory

Marian Louise Garland Ganter

January 24, 1928 – July 31, 2021

Marian Louise (Garland) Ganter, 93, a 43-year resident of Friendswood, passed away on July 31, 2021.

Marian was born on January 24, 1928, to Patrick and Gertrude Garland, as the youngest of eight children. She grew up in the East End of Galveston and graduated from Dominican High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Charles B. Ganter Jr. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on the island that they grew up on in 1947. They shared 72 years of marriage until his passing in 2019. Marian was proud of being a native of Galveston and equally proud of her second-generation Irish heritage.  As a caring homemaker, she raised five children with Charles.

Marian is survived by son, Charles B. Ganter III and wife Sandy of Houston, daughter, Jane Bowie and husband Frank of Pasadena, daughter, Kathleen Tufano and husband John of Webster, son, Garland Ganter of Friendswood, and daughter Christine Austgen and husband Christopher of Friendswood. She was also a doting grandmother to twelve grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, and an aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Outside of being a loving caretaker of her immediate and extended family, Marian was an active member of Mary Queen Catholic Church.  She dedicated a large amount of time volunteering and serving for more than thirty years in a variety of community service programs including Meals on Wheels and the church food pantry. She was a constant source of joy and inspiration to the members of the church and local community and gave an incredible amount of time to various charitable pursuits. In addition to serving at the church, Marian spent many of her later years traveling the world with her husband and family. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will always remember her fondly as a constant source of love, patience, guidance, and inspiration who can never be replaced.

A Rosary will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. at Mary Queen Catholic Church, 606 Cedarwood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Rev. Sibi Kunninu, M.S. officiating.  Interment will follow at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.
