October 28, 1930 – August 13, 2022
Margie Nell Patton Kearns passed away August 13, 2022 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth E. Kearns, her parents Craig and Nell Patton, her beloved brother Howard Patton and his wife Sharley, son-in-law Brad Busby and grandbaby Mason Riley Smith.
Margie was born October 28, 1930 in Crockett, Texas. Her family attended church every Sunday. Margie was valedictorian of the Tenaha High School class of 1947. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education, major in Psychology and minors in Sociology and English from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas in 1951. She got a job with the State of Texas Welfare Department in Austin the following year. She met Kenneth while attending a dance at the University of Texas. Kenneth had enlisted in the Army during World War II and was completing a degree in business. They were married in 1958 and the family grew as they lived in Austin, Amarillo, and then Pasadena in 1967. She was a devoted mother and proud of her children.
Margie worked for 31 years for the Texas Department of Human Services, 3 years for Texas Employment Commission and then 35 years as membership secretary for the First United Methodist Church, from which she finally retired in April of 2021! Her life epitomized work, sacrifice for her family, loving service and devotion to her church family and friends. She appreciated everything and daily wrote Thank You notes and encouraging words, a birthday card with a sprinkle of confetti and a two-dollar bill! Church involvement and attendance were always important to Margie, who kept impeccable records.
Margie is survived by her son Craig Kearns and wife Barbara, son Scott Kearns and wife Julianna with great-granddaughter Olive Sue, and son Dr. Kyle Kearns; daughter Carol and husband Brett Smith, daughters Kayla Matlock, Leah and husband Keene Johnson with great-granddaughter Kallie Rae, Deanna and husband, Nathan Friedrich; daughter Linda and husband Tim Malone, daughter Brianna and husband Zachary Bateman with another great-grandchild on the way; son Glen Kearns and wife Stephanie, sons Matthew and Luke and daughter Kendall. It has been my honor and privilege to care for two generations of remarkably strong women! Margie was a devoted and loving daughter to her mother Nell, while she was under our care. When the time came that Margie needed more care her children showed the same love, devotion and dedication to her, that she had shown her mother!
Heartfelt appreciation and love for allowing me to care for Margie in the hour of her need. May your loving memories fill your hearts today and always!
All of us at Heritage House will keep you and yours in our thoughts and prayers

I have never known someone who loved her family and her church as much as Margie. She talked about her family with such pride and was always ready to share a photo take she just happen to have in her purse. We all loved Margie at Revive!, formerly known as FUMC Pasadena, and she was always ready to support Revive! whenever she could. Margie was a very special lady and she will be missed.
Blessings to the Kearns family. Thank you for being a witness for Christ as you all served your Mama as a team. Thank you for sharing your Mama with me this past Mother's Day. Nanette and Warren Peaslee. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
What a wonderful Mom, Grandma and friend. I call her Mama because she reminds me of my own Mom who is the same age as her. We love how you care and love your family. It is an honor and privilege to have known you thru my "Sister" Linda Malone. You inspired me to love my family well and my church. Thank you for the legacy you've left with us. Your service to our Lord Jesus had encouraged all of us to do the same. We shall see you again…
So very sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.
