In Loving Memory

Lois Marie Carelock

October 25, 1933 – February 23, 2023

Lois was born on October 25, 1933, in Beasley, Texas in her Grandparents Section House.   Her parents, Bert and Edna Quinn, then moved to the family farm in Rosenburg, Texas.

When Lois was 2 years old, the family moved to Galveston, Texas, where she spent most of her youth.  During WWII, her father, Bert, served as a civilian airplane mechanic at Ellington Field.   After the war ended, the family moved back to their beloved island, Galveston, where her parents lived for over 50 years.

Lois graduated from Ball High School in 1950.  After graduation, she worked for a dentist as a receptionist and assistant.  Later she worked at American National as a receptionist.  Lois met her husband, Orland, at the Galveston First Assembly of God in 1951.   Lois and Orland were married on August 20, 1955.  Lois worked for Schlumberger and the University of Houston Law Library during this time.   Their son, Quinn, was born in 1960 and their daughter, Gwendolyn, was born in 1966.   The family resided in South Houston and attended the Park Place Assembly of God until 1970.   They moved to Friendswood where they resided for 50+ years.  Lois always opened their home up to her children’s friends and was fondly known as “Ms. C.”   She was active in the community, the Friendswood PTA, New Life Assembly as a founding member, and the local chapter of the Women’s Aglow as an officer for many years.   Later, Lois and Orland attended Refuge Mission Church in League City.    Lois and Orland, also known as Meme and Popie, enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren, Kalle and Katie.

Orland and Lois were both very active in the Gideon Ministry and fellowship.   They both loved passing out bibles wherever they went and sharing the word and love of God.  Lois particularly enjoyed sharing her favorite bible verse – Psalms 91:11, “For God will order his angels to care for you and guard you in all your ways.”

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Edna Quinn, and her husband, Orland Carelock.  She is survived by her son, Quinn Carelock (Danielle) and daughter, Gwendolyn Obert (Charles).   She is also survived by grandchildren, Kalle Muir (Scott), Katie Anderson (Eric), and great grandchildren Kaden and Sadie Muir.

Lois will be missed by all those she touched with her kind ways and thoughtfulness.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Tx. 77546 (281) 992-7200.

I have such fond memories of sweet Mrs C. Always so welcoming to all of us, and always willing to make some tea. I remember getting to sign the coveted tea pitcher. Also the very best bow maker of all time. Prayers for peace and comfort to Quinn and Gwen.

To us Gideons Lois is a bit of a legend. She passed out more Bibles during her visits to doctors then most of us passed out in many months. Many knew her as the Bible Lady. Once after going to a doctor's appointment, Lois asked that we stop by Kentucky Fried Chicken on the way home. The cook recognized her voice and as we approached the check out window he came from the kitchen – asked "Is that the Bible Lady?" then proceeded to give us a little dance to It's My Party (he was quite talented). Then he asked Lois for her Bible quote for the day which of course was Psalm 91:11. No one ever turned down her invitation to take a free Bible. They all loved her as much as we did. We will miss you Lois with your big smile and kind heart praying for everyone to know Jesus.

I'm so thankful I met "Meme" and "Popie" through Kalle and Scott. They were so sweet and loving to us. I loved the bibles she gave us for our grandchildren. She made us feel like friends from the first time we met her. Rest in peace sweet "Meme!" Love, Cynthia & Ron Sullivan

I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Carelock a few times and each time her genuine sweet spirit was always felt, and peace filled the space. I knew i was in the present of an Angel on earth. May your soul rest with God.
