LeRoy Courville

October 20, 1927 – May 25, 2024

LeRoy Courville, beloved husband, father, and grandfather and great grandfather, passed away, age 96 on Saturday, May 24, 2024, in Friendswood, Texas. 

LeRoy was born on October 20, 1927, to Joseph and Dea Courville in Elton, Louisiana. As a child, he was a star basketball player on the Elton High School team as a guard.  He went on and graduated from Elton High school in 1945. He was outgoing, energetic and full of strength and ambition.

LeRoy enlisted into the United States Navy from 1945 to 1947, where he proudly served his country.  After the discharge from the service, he returned to Elton, Louisiana. where he met and fell in love with, Emma Jean Carroll, and proudly telling everyone he could, that “He was going to marry that woman.”  They married on April 1,1949 and began a life together in Lake Charles, Louisiana.  They began their love story together and welcomed three children together Art, Shea, and Shan.

LeRoy began working at Gulf States in 1949 as Warehouse Maintenance.  Working up the chain to become a Storeroom Supervisor for the Western Division.  He enjoyed working for a company that has now become one of the largest energy providers in the United States.  In 1967, LeRoy received a transfer to Navasota, Texas to work for Gulf States as they built Lake Conroe.  Upon completion, LeRoy and Jean built a home in Conroe area in the late 70’s.

After retirement from Gulf States in his early 60’s, LeRoy and Jean moved to Magnolia and really started their retirement together.  They spent their time gardening and camping and umpiring.  Together, LeRoy and Jean loved to camp with Conroe Camping Group every month.  They visited many Texas State Parks and other campgrounds.  The two annual trips they loved to attend were The New Braunfels Wurstfest and Mardi Gras in Eunice, Louisiana.  LeRoy’s love of gardening was very important to him.  He enjoyed showing off his crops and sharing the harvest with friends and family.  LeRoy loved to referee high school basketball and umpiring high school baseball.

LeRoy was preceded in death by his wife Emma Jean Courville of 73 years of marriage, his parents Joseph and Dea Courville and sibling, Leo Paul Courville and sister-in-law Joyce Courville.

LeRoy is survived by his three children, Art Courville and his wife Barbara, Shea Scott and her husband Rick, and Shan Wells and her husband Thomas.  LeRoy was blessed to have six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren.

The family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Village on the Park. The family would also like to give sincere gratitude to Marliz and Eva Olmos for the excellent loving care, compassion and support they provided to LeRoy Courville.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 at 10:00 A.M. followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 with Rev. Jerry Stark officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org  or a charity of choice.
