Leo Henry Morovich died peacefully at home in Klein, Texas, on March 10, 2022. Leo lived at homes in Galveston, La Marque, Houston, La Grange and Klein, Texas. He was a Confirmed Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Klein, Texas since 1972. He was “BOI”, born in Galveston, Texas, on August 16, 1934, the Son of Leo Julius Morovich and Mary Ann Mallard Morovich. He was a 6th Generation Texan and a 4th Generation born on Galveston Island. Due to pre-statehood ancestors, he had become a Member of the Sons of the Republic of Texas.
Leo graduated from Ball High School in 1951, attended University of Houston with a major in Aviation Engineering. He joined the US Navy during the Korean War in 1952, where he trained in San Diego and attended Diesel Engine School in Oakland, California. Upon graduation he served at a degaussing station in Kingston, Washington until assigned to Amphibious Duty on LST 1073, a Landing Ship – Tank, as 3rd Class Petty Officer and Diesel Engineer. His tours included Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; Sasebo, Japan; and Inchon, Korea. He was a Member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War, and an LST Service Group. He always bragged about his ship to all of his family and friends.
While in the US Navy, Leo H. Morovich married Doris Lee Raught of Suquamish / Poulsbo, Washington on October 16, 1954 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Doris moved to Galveston where she lived with his parents until Leo returned from the US Navy. They moved to a home in La Marque, Texas, while he worked at L.M. Oil Company, which was his Father’s Gasoline Station, Garage and Distribution Company.
Leo joined the Houston Police Department and graduated with Class # 22 (1959). Upon graduation he was assigned to train with various divisions, with longest service in Patrol, Vice Squad and Traffic Enforcement Divisions. He retired from the Houston Police Department in 1980. Leo obtained a Real Estate Brokers License and enjoyed Commercial Real Estate. He also worked after HPD retirement in various law enforcement roles including Security, Insurance Investigation with Travelers, as a Private Insurance Investigator and then served from 1985-96 as a Ranger with Lower Colorado River Authority based from the place he loved at La Grange.
An only Child, Leo was predeceased by his Parents. He is survived by his loving Wife of 67 years, Doris Lee Morovich; two Sons, George Lee and Wife Betsy Ann; Leo Fred and Wife Tammy; five grandchildren, Leo Charles Morovich with Laura Ward of Galveston, Texas; George Anthony Morovich with Yvette Fernandez of San Antonio, Texas; and Camille Elizabeth with her Husband Darrell Lee of Spring, Texas; Ashley Valentineof Tomball and Megan Valentine of Deer Park. He was also a Great grandfather to three; Luke Valentine, Dylan Kelley and recently blessed to visit onChristmas withIsabelle Blake Morovich, and he loved the fact she was also “BOI” born in Galveston, Texas.

Georg, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I only knew you father through you but I know I would have liked him a great deal. He was a patriot as well as a good family man. He served his country in the Navy and in the Police Department, and I know he had high standards for doing his job with ethics and Constitutional restraints. Very blessed to have a Father who impressed values and personal responsibility. He was never critical and was always there for support at the most important times. We love you Dad!
