In Loving Memory

Kimberly Ann Hobbs Montz

June 23, 1969 – June 5, 2023

Kimberly Ann (Hobbs) Montz, of Friendswood, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023, at the young age of 53. Kim peacefully found rest in Christ at her home surrounded by her loving husband of 32 years, David, her children, close family, and faithful friends. Kim was born June 23, 1969, to Anita and Carl Hobbs in Houston, Texas. She was the oldest of three children.

Kim first met David in the 5th grade at Westwood Elementary in Friendswood. Beginning in the 8th grade at Friendswood Junior High, their incredible love story began on a dance floor in the old junior high girls’ gym. Kim and David were together mostly in those early years and graduated high school together creating many great memories along the way. Kim was a 12-year graduate from Friendswood High School Class of 1987. Kim and David married on April 20, 1991, in Hallettsville, Texas. Their marriage was a testament to true love and unwavering devotion.

Kim attended Texas A&M University, graduating in 3 years in 1990 with a B.S. degree in Sociology. She began her professional career in Bryan, Texas, as an intern at the Brazos County Adult Probation Department and quickly ascended into the role of Probation Officer. Soon after in 1992 when her husband, David, began dental school in Houston, Kim took a similar role with Fort Bend County Community Service and Corrections Department in Richmond, Texas. Her career evolved and she excelled into more leadership positions within the department. She was well-known as a leader/officer within the Fort Bend County courts system for over 25 years.

Following their return to Friendswood in 1998, Kim and David continued to grow their young family and restrengthened their hometown roots. During the final half of her career, she transitioned to work part-time to be a full-time mom for her four young children during their highly active school and after-school activities. Kim retired from Fort Bend County CSCD in July 2017. Kim cherished the many years of her kids’ activities, especially the countless hours, weekends, and nights she shared with David and her kids on many soccer fields, baseball fields, and basketball courts, and at cheer competitions, and high school and college football games. Kim was adored by and a second mom to many kids. She also was a dedicated and loyal Texas Aggie sports fan. Kim enjoyed a life of community involvement and service, serving as a board member of Friendswood ISD’s Education Foundation for 13 years and was honored as a Director Emeritus in 2022; President of Cline Elementary PTO for 2 years; Friendswood HS Cheerleading Booster Club Vice-President for 6 years; and supported many other community and charitable organizations and causes. As a result, she leaves a rich and wide legacy.

She went by many names: Kim, Mrs. Montz, Ms. Hobbs, Mrs. Kim, Kimberly, Aunt Kim, Kimmie-Kim, and her most cherished titles of all, Mom and Gigi.  For anyone blessed to call her by any of these names, she was a woman who was courageous, fierce, strong, gentle, intense, loyal, competitive, faithful, and someone who did not hesitate to speak her mind.  Kim was a very beautiful, strong, caring, and selfless woman who was eager to put into action every great cause to help others in “moving forward.”  She loved her family and friends dearly, and she was deeply loved by them. Kim’s family and her most treasured friends, knew that beyond question, no matter where her life, health, or passions took her, she held them close in her heart. Kim loved spending time with her family and hosting many of the family gatherings each year at her home and lake house. She was always ready for the next adventure with David, and she was never more alive than when she was outdoors. She loved tending to her beautiful yard, garden and plants, and she brought joy and hope to everyone who wanted to share with that green-thumb-magic touch she was blessed to have. Kim had many passions: loving her dogs, traveling all over the U.S. and world, watching her kids compete in sports, playing games with her kids and friends, decorating and enjoying her home for the Christmas season, and enjoying every kind of celebration. Her home was always open to anyone who came by to visit and was the center of action for her kids and all their friends.  Her fairy-tale love story with David, and her love of her children, grandson, family, and close friends were the central focus of her life.

Now that Kim is Home and her journey is finished, her Joy is made complete. Yet those of us who will see her again promise to continue to “move forward” with the same hope, heart, great smile, true passion, and faithfulness she showed us all to have.

The Montz family especially wants to express sincere gratitude to all of Kim’s amazing ‘army of angels’: Sarah Furman, Jeanean Wauters, Vanessa Thornton, Bridget Thompson, and Debbie Fadner, and her close friends and family who were constantly praying and supporting her and David and their kids at each and every step along Kim’s long, hard-fought journey; and gratefulness for all her healthcare team at MD Anderson. Kim fought a courageous battle with cancer for almost 5 years.

There are not enough words to express how deeply Kim will be missed. Kim is survived by her loving husband Dr. David Montz, her four children: Joshua Montz of Houston, Hannah (Montz) Wilson and husband, Zach, of Pearland; Samantha Montz and Zachary Montz of Houston; her father, Carl Hobbs and wife, Julia, of Hallettsville, Texas;  her sisters, Sarah Furman and husband, Tony, and Megan Hobbs, all of Friendswood; her grandson, Wesley Wilson; mother-in-law, Dorothy Montz of Friendswood; sister-in-law, Teresa Montz Benden and husband, Mark, of College Station, Texas; brother-in-law Dan Montz and wife, Angela, of Beaverton, Oregon; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and dear friends. Kim was preceded in death by her mother Anita Henke Hobbs.

Pallbearers are Joshua Montz, Zachary Montz, Zachary Wilson, Tony Furman, Mark Benden, and Ken McQuillon.

Honorary pallbearers are Dan Montz, Jacob Wauters, Kevin Wauters, Brad Furman, Travis Benden, Justin Benden, Luke Benden, Alexander Hines, Doug Thornton, and Alan Thompson.

A Catholic Rosary will be held on Tuesday, June 13, starting at 6:00 pm, followed by visitation at 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm at Jeter Funeral Home in Friendswood, Texas. Funeral mass services will be on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at 10:00 am at Mary Queen Catholic Church in Friendswood, Texas, with Rev. Trey Crespo officiating. Immediately following mass, everyone is invited to a “Celebration of Life” lunch reception which will be in the Mary Queen Catholic Church Hall. Graveside services will follow the reception at approximately 2:30pm at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

So sorry for you Dr Montz, your family, friends ande employees. Though we never met Ms Montz we know how good a man is, is in large part due to how good the woman is in his life. One makes the other better and you are a truly very good man Dr. Montz so she had to be equally if not more so! Her life sounds amazing. If only all of us could have had a tenth of the positive impact that she had in her too short time on this Earth.

  1. Our hearts and prayers go out to all of you. May each of you continue to cherish your time together and always talk about Kim’s memories with each of you. May you continue to carry on her traditions and make new ones that remind you of her. God Bless You!
    Sincerely,

To Dr. Montz and his family,

As a patient of Dr. Montz I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of his wife to Cancer. I never had the pleasure of meeting Kim but through our conversations at the office and our shared experiences in Friendswood, I felt I knew the Montz family already without actually meeting them. We shared a similar experience of building a house together with our spouse and it was my understanding that she was the chief house designer. He kept to the technical side of the construction or so he said. I’m glad that she got to do that and had the satisfaction of seeing it completed. And all the while she was bravely battling Cancer. Kim did a great job! To me that speaks to her strength of character. I’m sorry I didn’t get to meet her.

The Roy and Barbara Brown family wish to express and extend our heart felt sympathy and condolences to Dr. Montz ,David, and his family from the Brown family of Mustang Dr., Friendswood.

  24. I am so sorry to hear of this great loss, Kim was always so supportive of us at Friendswood High School. She was such a pleasure to visit with, she always looked for ways to help, she often made me laugh and really she was just as blunt and as honest as I was, probably why we got along so well. David, Sam, Zach, Hannah and Josh y'all have my love and prayers.

  26. Pat & Pete DeVillez and family

Please accept our condolences on the passing of Kim. When we lived on the same street, Kim and I would occasionally catch-up on each other’s families when we met on an aisle at HEB. Her unconditional love for her family was evident. She had a gift for being in the present moment when she talked with people. Eternal rest grant unto Kim, O Lord. Let perpetual light shine upon her. May she rest in peace

  27. Dan Richard Beto

I was saddened to learn of Kim's untimely passing. I remember hiring her as a probation officer in Brazos County; she was energetic, smart, thoughtful, and an enjoyable person to be around. My sympathies are extended to her husband and family.
