In Loving Memory

Kevin Jeffry Reed

April 17, 1978 – August 29, 2022

Kevin Reed of League City, Texas, passed away on August 29, 2022, at the age of 44. Kevin peacefully found rest in Christ surrounded by his devoted wife of 15 years, Caroline, close family, and faithful friends.

A native of the Pacific Northwest, Kevin spent a decade teaching and coaching in Peyton, Colorado where he met and married his wife, Caroline McCormack Reed in 2007. Following their move to Texas in 2009, Kevin and Caroline began their adoption journey and completed their family by welcoming their daughters Etta and Louise (Ouisie).

Kevin’s teaching and coaching career of 24 years spanned Colorado and Texas, and at his

passing, he served at Friendswood High School as an English teacher. What marked Kevin, more than his career or his job title, however, was his deep faith in Jesus Christ. His discipleship to Jesus is what motivated him to love others by serving them wherever he found them. Whether in his home, his classroom, in prison ministry, volunteering at the Crisis Pregnancy Center, or frequenting Waffle House, Kevin took the great commission and great commandment seriously. As a result, he leaves a rich and wide legacy.

He went by many names: Mr. Reed, Coach Reed, Mr. Kevin, Kevin, Uncle Kevin, Kev, Kevie, and his most cherished title of all, Daddy. For any blessed to call him by any of these names, he was known as a man who was courageous, gentle, intense, winsome, loyal, and faithful. Kevin’s family, his most treasured relationships, knew that beyond question, no matter where life took him, his health, or his passions, they held his heart.

Kevin was always ready for the next adventure and he was never more alive than when he was in the outdoors. He snowboarded the side of any mountain and he brought joy and hope to every hike. He once remarked that the only way to get to the top of a mountain is “to take one step after the other.”

Kevin, as you are Home now, your journey is done, your Joy is made Complete. Yet those of us who will see you again promise to continue to take “one step after the other” with the same hope, the same heart, smile, and faithfulness you showed us all to have.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Caroline Reed, and his two daughters, Etta and Ouisie.

A memorial service will be held on September 10, 2022 at 11am at Sagemont Church, located at 11300 South Sam Houston Parkway, Houston, Texas, 77089.

In lieu of flowers, to celebrate Kevin, the family kindly asks that you give a donation to The Kevin Reed Legacy Fund a fund which will provide scholarships for students of Friendswood High School in addition to supporting Etta and Louise Reed’s college education.

  5. My thoughts and prayers are with Caroline and the girls as well as all who knew Kevin. I had the honor of working with him in Peyton. What a wonderful man of integrity! And his love for the Lord was such an encouragement to me. I will always remember what a great teacher he was to my kids as well.

Mr. Reed taught our son at Friendswood High School. We are forever grateful for his support, positive influence and contribution to our son's education and development. He was one of a kind.

Kevin Reed's early passing is an unfathomable loss to his family, friends and students. It is also a great loss to the generation of students he would have had in future. However, his love and influence will live on in the lives he touched during his far too brief time on earth.

Thank you Mr. Reed. You are missed.
