In Loving Memory

John Earl Guthrie

August 9, 1956 – February 25, 2023

John E. Guthrie of Friendswood, Texas passed away peacefully on February 25, 2023 surrounded by his wife and sons at their home. John was born on August 9, 1956 in Houston, Texas to Earline and Ian Guthrie.

John was preceded in death by his parents Ian and Earline Guthrie, and Sister Joyce Schoen.

John is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Paula, Children: Jeff and wife Jennifer Guthrie, Justin and wife Samantha Guthrie, Grandchildren: Lyndi, Logan, and Jaxson Guthrie, Sister: Jennifer Mitchell, along with many treasured friends.

We would also like to recognize Ricky Simpson, Duane Parten, and Mike McMillion as very special individuals to John’s life. They will be his honorary pallbearers.

John worked in the heavy machinery business as an industrial mechanic for over 20 years. His love for God and family always took precedence. He enjoyed fishing with his boys, bird watching, watching his grandkids play sports and do school functions. His love of music was always a “trivia game” to everyone around, “what band is singing this song?”. He loved traveling with his wife to all sorts of new adventures across the country. He never let his situation stop him from enjoying life to the fullest. He was a devote Christian that led by example. He started his adult life as a United States Marine. He would be the first to tell you “Semper Fi” and he served his country very proudly. You would rarely see him without some sort of Marine attire on. John always loved his cups of coffee and enjoyed wearing different types of hats. Later in life, John would enjoy spending much of his time in Louisiana relaxing outside and taking in God’s creations. He will be deeply missed and loved by his family. John is once again singing and dancing with his loved ones that have gone before him.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, Texas 77546 (281) 992-7200 with Rev. Gene Emswiler and Rev. David Savage officiating.
