March 16, 1949 – September 22, 2021
Joe Ruben Reyes, Sr., 72, passed away peacefully in his sleep, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. He was born in El Campo, Texas on March 16, 1949 to Isaac and Barbara Reyes.
Joe is survived by his wife of 50 years, Yolanda; his children, Joe (Bridget) Reyes Jr., Clarissa (Lupe) Gonzales, Sonya (Amanda) Loredo-Reyes, and Justin (Kara) Reyes; his grandchildren, Clara Loren, Joe Ruben III, Jillian Gracie, Bobbi Spero, Nola Bri, Major Rey, and Olivia Hope; his siblings Manuel David Reyes and Yolanda Mitchell; his 24 nieces and nephews.
Joe Sr. graduated class of 1968 from Ganado High School in Ganado, Texas. He married the love of his life Yolanda in 1971, celebrating 50 blessed years in May. Joe Sr. worked 20 plus years at Pasadena Paper Mill before retiring and starting his own business. He successfully grew his company. He retired again to follow his passion of raising cattle with his youngest son Justin.
Joe Sr. was a devout Catholic who attended Mary Queen Catholic Church every Sunday. He raised his children and grandchildren to follow in his Faith, showing the path to God’s Kingdom. He was a loving husband to Yolanda for 50 years, ensuring her needs and wants were met daily. They loved to travel and visited every state in the U.S. He rode his trike to Washington State and back, also to Las Vegas several times.
Joe Sr. was the greatest father to his children, attending every sporting event and providing the best education. He taught them how to be humble and kind while always striving to be their best. Joe Sr. was the hardest working man around. He was raised on a farm, worked as a welder, a CEO of his own company, and a rancher. He was highly respected by all who worked by his side. He built many strong friendships while working and going to the Rod and Gun Club.
Joe Sr. loved sports. He had been an avid volleyball, baseball, softball and football player. He loved the Houston Astros and giving stat updates during the games via phone call and texts. He was filled with pride watching his grandson play golf while following closely behind him in the golf cart. He felt that same pride while watching his granddaughters cheer. His love for sports will be passed to his youngest grandchildren in the future.
He will be missed by all greatly.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Minerva, Isaac Jr., Barbara Alice, and Elva Ninfa.
