November 30, 1928 – July 18, 2022
Jeannette Ruth Satterfield Crawford was born in Butler, PA on November 30, 1928, the daughter of Archie T. and Isabel Fulton Satterfield. She passed away on July 18, 2022, in Friendswood, TX. She graduated from Brentwood High School, Pittsburgh. She met her future husband, William at a picnic at Spencer Methodist Church where she was very active in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. Bill and Jean married at Spencer Memorial Church on January 31, 1948. They were married for 74 years.
Bill’s work in drilling operations both in the US and overseas required many moves for the family including Australia, Libya, England, Scotland and Venezuela. Together they raised 5 children. Wherever they lived they fully engaged in the local church often as youth counsellors.
Jean was active in teaching Bible Classes and women’s ministry. She became a mentor in the lay course, Education for Ministry, and she was a member of the Order of Daughters of the King for prayer and service in the Episcopal Church. She and Bill recently became members of Hope Lutheran Church in Friendswood. She loved entertaining and offering generous hospitality with delicious meals to all whom she welcomed into their home. Selflessly and tirelessly, she lived out her Christian faith, offering her love and bringing joy to all.
Jean and Bill retired to Black Mountain, NC and then returned to Texas to reside in Friendswood to be near family members. Jean is survived by her sons, Thomas of Snoqualmie, WA, Mark, Friendswood, TX, David, Oak Park, IL and Scott, Haymarket, VA. Her brother, Tom Satterfield and her daughter, Bonnie Kay Urch preceded her in death. Jean had immense pride in her 8 grandchildren (Adam, Emily, Daniel, Johnny, Kristen, Jessica, Liam and Will) and 8 great grandchildren (Sophia, Ellie, Zara, Andrew, Lucas, Robbie, Eliana and Campbell).
A Celebration of Life will be held at Hope Lutheran Church on Saturday, August 13 at 11 am conducted by the Rev. Jonathan Petering. Reception to follow at Hope Lutheran Church.

Jeannette Ruth Satterfield Crawford, who happens to be my grandmother was one of the nicest people that I ever knew in my life. Her character, charity work, generosity, and cooking will be like non other and the world will be a lesser place without her. I know that she lived a long and meaningful life and that now she’s with God up in heaven. I wish to express my deepest condolences and wish everyone in the family well. May God rest her soul of gold.
My mother always created an elegant and beautiful home wherever we lived. She was a wonderful cook and hostess to the many interesting guests who came to the Crawford domicile. She especially loved Christmas and took great joy in all of her grandchildren, never forgetting a birthday. One of the many treasured gifts I received from her is a copy of the poems of Wordsworth that she gave me in Grasmere/Lake Windermere when we visited Dove Cottage. I am grateful my son, Corporal Liam Lindsay Crawford was able to meet her and spend time with her. Mom lived a long a rich life, celebrating the good times and weathering the storms with grace and faith.
The small things such as a tightly made bed and tool house cookies are a few of the tangible things I have still in memory of Grandma. Yet it’s also the intangibles she brought to her loved ones that we’ll cherish. Grandma Crawford has played a great part in making me the person I am today and for that I’ll always be grateful. My heartfelt salute to her wonderful life well lived.

Grandma Crawford is one of the main people who have made me who I am today, and for that I am forever grateful. My heartfelt salute to a life well lived.
