In Loving Memory

Jeanette Smith

December 17, 1938 – May 20, 2024

On Monday, May 20th, 2024 we said goodbye to our beloved mother, Jeanette Wilson Smith.   Jeanette was born on December 17th, 1938, in Glasgow, Scotland.  Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Austin Smith, parents, Jean and Allan Findlay, brothers Ramsay Findlay and Allan Findlay, and sister-in-law Judy Findlay.

Jeanette is survived by her children, Mark Smith (Nancy) and Pamela Welch (Eric), her grandson Austin, sister-in-law’s, Dorothy Findlay and Dolly Smith and her brother-in-law Craig Smith.

Jeanette and her family lived in Scotland until July of 1956, when they emigrated to the United States and eventually settled in Pasadena, Texas.  She moved in across the street from her future husband, Austin.  Jeanette and Austin were married on September 3rd, 1960, and remained together until Austin’s death on June 13th, 1999.  Jeanette, Austin, and their children, Mark and Pamela, moved from Pasadena, TX to Conroe, Texas in 1969.  In June of 1974, they moved to Friendswood, Texas and Jeanette stayed there until her death.

Jeanette had many talents: piano playing, sewing, crafting, gardening, and travel.  She and her family returned to Scotland for vacations multiple times, with the most recent trip in 2018.  Jeanette was a member of the Daughters of the British Empire for 50 years.  She loved the wonderful charity work and significant friendships the group brought into her life.

A memorial service for Jeanette is being held at Golfcrest Country Club (2509 Country Club Drive, Pearland, TX 77581) on Friday, June 28th from 2:00-4:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers, Jeanette requested that donations be made to Operation Smile.  Her two favorite Aunts, Martha and Sally, were born with cleft palates, so Operation Smile held a special place in Jeanette’s heart.

  1. Fondly remember Jeanette from our days together as members of the Daughters of the British Empire. We were neighbors in Friendswood. Loved sharing recipes, laughing, and reminiscing. She was a very special lady.

  4. I think of Jeanette so often and remember the wonderful times together, especially the DBE gatherings. Loved sitting in Jeanette's kitchen laughing and carrying on while she made her wonderful griddle scones. I still use her recipe to this day. I felt honored to be her friend and neighbor.
