In Loving Memory

Jeanette Marie Groba

November 29, 1948 – December 25, 2022

Jeanette Marie Groba was born on November 29, 1948 to Robert and Mary Gay. She passed away on December 25, 2022.

“Marie” as she was known to her family and friends, was preceded in death by her parents (her mother passed away when Marie was four (4) years old) and her sister, Wilma McBride.

Marie is survived by her beloved husband of fifty-four (54) years, Dr. Ronald Edward Groba. Marie and Ronnie met on a blind date while attending college and as “Ronnie” has always said “I married Marie because of her tacos!” Together they would raise a family and build a very successful business. Marie and Ronnie did everything together, including building their dream house in Friendswood, Texas…they along with their sons, literally built the house!!!! There was nothing the two of them could not do.

Marie’s greatest joy and what she believed to be her biggest accomplishment in life are the two wonderful sons, Kenneth “Ken” Edward Groba and Kevin “Diver” Andrew Groba that she and Ronnie raised. Marie’s face lit up every time she talked to or about her sons. Truly, if you knew Marie, you understood that being Mom to Ken and Kevin brought her such happiness. It was an impressive feat as she had grown up without a mother and yet, was truly the Mom that every mother should be.

Marie is also survived by Ken’s wife, Dawn Marie Groba, who has been invaluable during Marie’s illness, making sure that all of Marie’s needs were provided and protecting Marie and Ronnie during the difficult past few years. Marie is also survived by Ken and Dawn’s children, her beloved older grandchildren, Gavin Reid Edward Groba and Evan Graham Groba.

Marie is also survived by her adored younger grandchildren from her beloved Kevin Kendall Reese Groba and Konner James Groba.

Marie is survived by her sister, Sylvia Carey, who was also Marie’s best friend and confidant. If Marie received a call from Sylvia, everything she was doing came to a halt and anyone around her knew that she was going to visit with her sister, and they could return later.

And finally, Marie is survived by too many nieces, nephews, the entire “Groba Clan” and friends to list, but if you were lucky enough to be on this list, you know Marie loved you! She always had an amazing sense of humor and always playing pranks and jokes on the many friends who would come visit her.

Marie was the head cheerleader and senior favorite at San Bonita High School. Decades later a neighbor who knew Marie and Ronnie when they lived in Galena Park said, “She is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen.”

Marie was an extraordinary, self-taught, businesswoman. While running Ronnie’s practice, Marie started and ran an extremely successful business of her own, “Systems for Success Enterprises, LLC.” Marie traveled the country helping businesses establish efficient systems to grow their companies.

Marie was a very private person, her generosity was unknown to most, she helped C.P.S. children, those that were less fortunate and her family and friends in their time of need.

Marie enjoyed life and had many hobbies, probably too many to list, but was an extremely talented artist, she loved painting, refinishing furniture, fishing, boating and being at the beach. Marie loved the ocean and much of her artwork included oil painted scenes she experienced in the Galveston area and their home at Tiki Island.

The Groba Family would like to extend their gratitude to their family and friends for their support and love during this difficult time.

Friends are cordially invited to the visitation with the family on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 A.M. at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home, 311 N. Friendswood Dr., Friendswood, TX 77546 (281) 992-7200, with Deacon Vince Eklund officiating.

For some unknown reason this evening, I thought about Marie. While trying to find out if you were still in the area, I was shocked to find her obituary.
A flood of memories followed. What great times the four of us had when Joe was alive. I was fortunate to meet you both through him and share great times…. fishing on your boat and enjoying parties and flounder feasts as your Tiki Island neighbors . Marie was an exceptionally talented and loving human being. I am so very sorry to hear of her loss. How wonderful that you shared a lifetime with her. I wish you a gentle comfort and peace as you grieve.

  10. Oh my! We go way back…..I am a bit heartbroken as I always and admired Marie. I remember when we first met and you were building. We traded babies on the hip. Well life moved forward and off to Asia we went. I so remember the delight in seeing you guys at Gus’s in TC many years ago. We are back in our hometown in Kentucky. Gathering the wagons as I say close to siblings. So very terribly sorry to here of your family’s loss. May God Bless all of you and keep you close forever. Love, Jack & Joyce Brinly. Ps and Jack continues what the Dr’s said impossible. Wish I could have hugged her one last time.

To the Groba family: We were thinking of you this evening and discovered Marie’s obituary. We are so very sorry for your loss of beautiful vibrant Marie. We shared many memories around dentistry and good times. We enjoyed meeting your family and spending time with you in Tiki Island. You were always so hospitable and welcoming. Marie and Ken’s visit to Newfoundland many years ago to support my practice with her program was a memorable time as well. We send loving thoughts to your family and sincere condolences on your loss of Marie.
