October 26, 1945 – June 18, 2023
Janice Lea Stiefel died on Father’s Day June 18th, 2023. She left behind her 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. Janice was born in Alvin, Texas on October 26, 1945. She was raised by her loving father Judge George Ed Webb and her mother Ruth Webb. She lived her life in Alvin and was known for her passion for school, family’s businesses, and love for horses. She graduated from Alvin High School in 1963.
She enjoyed a long marriage to her second husband, Thomas Stiefel, who was also an equestrian and a self-taught farrier. Tom and Janice were married in 1978. Janice, with her daughter Joy and son Joe, and Tom with his 3 daughters Teresa, Tammy, Tonia, and his son Tommy. Much like the Brady bunch, the “TJ Bunch” lived on Janice’s small farm where she continued to work at IBM until her retirement in 1993.
After she retired, she continued to travel the country showing horses, judging, and organizing horse shows. Janice continually made fast friends throughout the paint horse association and the Alvin community. She was well known for caring for her family, great outlook on life, and infectious smile.
Tom and Janice opened their own business in 1992, Alvin Farrier Supply. They later brought in their daughter Joy Smith as a partner to run the business along with Tom’s youngest daughter Tonia Procenko to run their northern location in Tomball, Texas.
In 2011, Janice was diagnosed with early onset of dementia. Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. Though dementia mostly affects older adults, it is not a part of normal aging. Janice battled with the disease for the next 12+ years, where she still maintained her selfless demeanor and kept her genuine smile.
Janices’ daughter Joy said “Our mother will be missed by so many. Even though she is no longer with us, we know that she will continue to guide us. She will forever be in our hearts and minds.
We will have a small memorial service in the Pearland area in late July. We have asked that everyone refrain from sending flowers and instead donate to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
Condolences may be sent to the family in care of Jeter Memorial Funeral Home at www.jeterfuneralhome.com.

My deepest apologies. I meant Tom and his family! Unfortunately I never got to know either of Janice’s husbands or their children. Or know anything but the broadest circumstances of her adult life.
My memories of Janice are all of a determined and daring teenage horsewoman, blazing a trail around barrels in a hot and dusty rodeo arena, determined to outdo every other rider – male and female alike!
